Paul Townend: Fan De Blues my best chance in Guinness Galway Blazers Handicap Chase

Ladbrokes ambassador Paul Townend has two rides at Galway Races on Friday and he discussed their prospects ahead of the fifth day of the meeting.

Tempo Chapter Two – 17.00

He has been disappointing since winning a maiden impressively at Fairyhouse but he has been gaining good experience in big handicaps. He wasn’t beaten all that far by a certain State Man in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham. He never landed a blow but was only beaten by 13/14 lengths.

A reproduction of that level of form should put him in the shake-up. His jumping probably hasn’t been slick enough so far, but the gathered experience should stand to him and hopefully he can come home strongly. However, he definitely needs to step up his form since winning that maiden.

Fan De Blues – 18.00

He missed out on a run in the Galway Plate. He ran a cracker in the novice handicap at Punchestown, coming from a long way back to come fourth that day. He has been competitive in big handicaps and he has a lot of experience of jumping in handicaps. He is a course winner last year over a bit shorter.

We think the step up in trip will help him and I think he is a real live player. As I said, he has been competing in these big handicaps without having his day and hopefully Galway will prove fruitful for him. He is my best chance today.
