Huge prizes on offer for this week’s Emirates FA Cup hopefuls

Published:

Peterborough United host Notts County while Newport County face-off against Plymouth Argyle in this week’s Emirates FA Cup Second Round Replays.

But which sides will prevail and in turn book themselves dream ties away at Chelsea and Liverpool respectively?

Those are the prizes on offer for this week’s hopefuls and we’ve taken an in-depth look at Tuesday and Wednesday night’s action.

Here’s how it could go down…

Peterborough United v Notts County, Tuesday 19:45

These two teams served-up a 2-2 thriller in their first encounter at Meadow Lane with Louis Laing’s 94th-minute equaliser ensuring County get a second bite at the cherry.

Peterborough must’ve thought they were home and dry when Leo Da Silva Lopes and Gwion Edwards put then two goals to the good after just 15 minutes.

However, before the half-time whistle blew there was still time for Adam Campbell to pull a goal back and Posh midfielder Lee Angol to receive his marching orders for putting his arm in Matt Tootle’s face.

That handed the hosts all the impetus they needed and while it took a while to come, Laing’s effort levelled up the score.

However, John Sheridan’s men will need to summon the same fighting spirit to go one better at London Road.

The Magpies have lost five of their last six games in all competitions, since beating Boreham Wood in the First Round of the Emirates FA Cup, and find themselves just a point off the relegation places in League Two.

Meanwhile, higher division Peterborough have recorded 5-2 and 2-0 wins since last meeting Notts County.

Grant McCann’s men should prevail but don’t rule out County getting on the scoresheet.

Best Bet: Peterborough to win and both teams to score @ 9/4 (WAS 7/4)

Newport County v Plymouth Argyle, Wednesday 19:45

The Exiles worked hard to earn another crack at Plymouth with the first-half dismissal of Sean Rigg not exactly helping the Welsh side’s cause earlier this month.

In fact, it was the second time in the previous two meetings that a Newport player has seen red against the Greens, and Graham Westley’s side can’t afford another indiscretion.

Once again, this is a tale of two sides moving in opposite directions with the visitors loving life at the top of League Two while Newport are rock bottom of the division.

And with the Pilgrims winning on three of their last four visits to Rodney Parade we think they look cracking value to seal their Third Round passage.

Best Bet: Plymouth to beat Newport County @ 7/5
