Ruben Amorim has an interesting clause inserted into his Manchester United contract, with a key difference from Erik ten Hag.

On November 1, Man United announced that a deal for Amorim had been finalised to replace Ten Hag, just four days after the Dutchman was sacked following a 2-1 loss to West Ham in the Premier League.

Amorim is the first Man United boss selected by INEOS, and a rather interesting clause in his contract has suggested that the new board wants to do something different with those in charge of the club.

Interesting clause in Ruben Amorim's Man United deal

A common joke amongst the footballing fan base was than Ten Hag would always look to players he worked with previously, either at Ajax or other clubs, when bringing players to Old Trafford.

It was a lot more than a joke though, as the likes of Anthony, Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs De Ligt and others all joined Man United whilst Ten Hag was manager, having previously worked under the Dutchman.

Part of the reason for that was the fact that Ten Hag was a traditional 'manager', with a say over incomings and outgoings, as well as the tactics the team employed on the pitch.

However, that's changing though, as Ben Jacobs explains that Amorim is a 'head coach' rather than a manager, the latter of which was the title that Ten Hag had whilst at Man United.

This is a new step for United, who have previously had managers rather than head coaches, but it's a move that makes sense considering the club has hired several sporting directors and executives to handle off-field matters since INEOS came in.

First time Manchester United has appointed a 'head coach' rather than a 'manager'. Amorim does not have a recruitment veto. He is a notably different profile from former MUFC bosses, but his arrival also reflects the evolution of Manchester United's football structure.

An interesting note in the quote from Jacobs is about the fact that Amorim DOES NOT have a recruitment veto in his deal with United, something that Ten Hag did whilst manager at the club.

Previously, Ten Hag would have the ability to say no if United's transfer decision-makers wanted to bring a player to the club, but that isn't something that Amorim has been afforded.

The decision on transfers will be made with the sporting directors, with Amorim's input of course, but he won't be able to outright say no if the club does want to bring a player in.

This is something that is also being done at Liverpool at the moment, with Arne Slot becoming 'head coach' this summer, rather than the club's manager, with Jurgen Klopp being given the latter title when he joined in 2015.

In Amorim's first game Man United play Ipswich, with Ruud Van Nistelrooy having been unbeaten in his two games as interim manager as the Red Devils gained some ground in the top four race. Amorim has finished up Sporting Lisbon, and the Portuguese manager has taken control during the international break.

Fans don't have to wait that long to see the new man in charge, but for those who can't wait, Ladbrokes has looked at how Amorim will line-up Man United when he officially takes over, with Marcus Rashford potentially set to shine.
