Ivorian striker could boost Cardiff City’s Premier League survival bid

Published:

New Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær could turn to one of his former strikers in a bid to bolster his stuttering attack.

With a total of just 17 strikes only Crystal Palace have scored fewer goals so far this term and with the Bluebirds now rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table – and priced at 10/11 for relegation – Solskjær is looking to bring in new blood to freshen up his striking options.

Fraizer Campbell is the Welsh team’s top scorer this season, but even he has bagged just five strikes from 22 games.

Peter Odemwingie’s solo effort puts him second among the Bluebirds’ attackers, while the rest of the forwards have combined for a total of zero converted efforts.

Solskjær had been mulling over a potential move for former Manchester United and Molde striker Mame Biram Diouf but with his current employers Hannover set to miss out on target Nicolas Castillo the Norwegian is being forced to look elsewhere.

As such, Cardiff could look to the Chinese Super league where Solskjær’s former charge Davy Angan is currently plying his trade.

Angan played under Solskjær at Molde last year and top scored with 13 goals in 26 outings, a total that followed his nine from 29 the previous year.

He has taken well to life in China, netting nine times in 29 games so far, but the lure of the Premier League could be enough to tempt the 26-year-old to cut his time short in the Far East.

Cardiff are currently available at odds of 7/2 to finish the season at the foot of the table, but if Agnan could hit the ground running in the Premier League the odds could drift as the weeks go on.

Next up for Cardiff is a trip to Old Trafford, and while champions Manchester United are struggling at present the visitors’ odds of 9/1 highlight the need for the club to add firepower to its faltering attack.
