In an exclusive interview with Ladbrokes, Donegal boxer Jason Quigley says an exciting future awaits despite his defeat to Edgar Berlanga at Madison Square Garden.

It was probably the most relaxed I have ever felt going into a fight. Everything leading up to the fight felt good. For the first time in a while, I had the full team with me, including my wife April.

We switched it on for the press conference, the weigh-in, the face-offs and the training sessions, but then at night I could chill with April.

The fight itself was so touch and go. One minute Berlanga was up, the next I was up. It was an intriguing and competitive fight.

The decision didn’t go my way which is really disappointing. I got in there to win and that’s what I do every time.

New York has put me back on the map

I really wanted to put a bit of respect and a mark back on my name. In boxing, you’re as good as your last fight and people will remember me from the Demetrius Andrade fight. Yes, it was great fighting for a world title but getting beat in that fashion was tough. I broke my jaw in the first round and it was a complete uphill struggle from there.

These things happen and people don’t take these things into consideration, they just say I was knocked out by Andrade. After my performance against Berlanga though, I believe I have gained back that respect.

Even Eddie Hearn said I was phenomenal and looked amazing at the weight above. He said going into the last round it was so close and if it hadn’t been for the knockdowns, it could have gone either way.

I have come away from New York feeling content and I have put myself right back up there in the mix with the best in the world. With the way I carried myself throughout the fight, my stock has risen. I am in a great place.

There are big fights out there for me. I am one or two fights away from a world title fight. If I get one or two wins under my belt, a Canelo fight is on the horizon.
