It was a long year for everyone, it didn’t matter if you were in sport, owned a business, worked nine to five, it was difficult.

I had five possible fights throughout the pandemic but all fell through as a result. However, with a fight always a possibility it was a good thing. Even though the plug was pulled on all of them, it kept me in the gym and training hard. If there were no fights in the pipeline I could have done a Ricky Hatton and put on a couple of stone.

Finally getting to Las Vegas was a huge relief and such a great experience. When we touched down I knew I had made it across the pond and that the fight would actually happen. There were so many hurdles and obstacles to get here during a pandemic, but I could finally see the finish line. It was funny, I had people queuing up offering to be the water boy or bag carrier just to get on the trip.

Heading into the fight, the nerves were there. It was over a year and a half since my last fight whereas Shane Mosley Jr had two fights under his belt during the pandemic. He had plenty of momentum and was putting in a better performance in each fight so he was the in-form fighter which makes my victory even sweeter.

Winning the fight was massive and everyone saw the emotion. I felt like I had won the fight but when the first scorecard came out and it was a draw, I thought to myself: ‘Oh Jesus, what way is this going to go!’ I suppose that made it even more exciting especially when I was called the winner.

I want to fight Demetrius Andrade for world title

It was the biggest fight of my career, with a lot on the line for me. Had I lost, it would have left me thinking where do I go next. But that victory puts me right up there with the best of them. Now a world title fight is on my radar. After the fight I said my part, I have challenged the middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade, so it’s now up to my team to get the wheels in motion and make it happen.

It took a lot of affirmations and visualisation to get where I am today. Now I am applying the same thought process to becoming a world champion. This is the reason why I became a boxer and this is why I do all the hard work in the gym.

Deep down I genuinely believe that I have what it takes to be a world champion. I have had a lot of ups and downs but I believe my time is coming and I will become a professional world champion. It’s just a matter of getting that opportunity and grabbing it with both hands.
