Jason Quigley: Homecoming a springboard towards becoming world champion
Published:
Donegal boxer Jason Quigley finally comes home to fight at the National Stadium on Saturday night as he restarts his journey to become a world champion with a bout against Anatoli Hunanyan.
It is a very proud moment for me to be fighting as a professional here in Ireland for the first time. I have been in America for my whole professional career, with one fight in London being the closest I’ve gotten to coming home.
It’s brilliant to be fighting at the National Stadium. As an amateur I have won many times at this venue so it’s special to be returning as a professional. It’ll hopefully be another good memory in the bank.
One of the things I am most excited about is having a home crowd behind me. It hasn’t been easy for my fans, friends and family who have followed me throughout my career. Many of them have had to spend their hard-earned money to come to the States to watch me fight, so it’s great to be able to give back a little bit by coming home.
Can't wait to see @jay_quigley back in the ring! 🥊

There will be some atmosphere tonight, that’s for sure. It will be massive for me to have that support and to have that backing. Everybody knows it doesn’t matter what sport you are in, the home advantage is key. You’re in familiar surroundings, in your own climate, your own time zone. It really helps.
My inital opponent has pulled out through injury so I fight Czech boxer Anatoli Hunanyan. The change of opponent hasn’t thrown me off. I come to the ring 110% prepared. I am getting into the ring performing to the best I can. It will be a nightmare for anyone else in there with me.
It’s my first fight since Demetrius Andrade in 2021. I feel so confident going into this fight. It has been one of my best training camps, everything has gone to plan and it has been smooth sailing. It’s been hard work and ruthless. Blood, sweat, and tears have gone into this, and we could have one hell of a fight tonight.

I have an end goal and that is to become a world champion. Boxing is an unpredictable game but my team and I are looking at this fight as the most important thing. To get back to winning ways, get a good victory under my belt, and then we sit down and put a great plan in place on the journey of becoming a world champion.
