Johnson just edges favouritism from Clarke in the Open betting
Published:The leaders certainly got the best of the weather as the sunshine engulfs Sandwich following a day in which just three players managed to break 70.
Fittingly, those three players sit at the top of the Open leaderboard and the betting as the fourth and final day of the Open is set-up to be a cracker.
Rickie Fowler was easily the star of the show today, overcoming some pretty awful conditions during the early part of his round to shoot 68, and the American finds himself three shots off the lead and 8/1 to win his first Major title.
His compatriot Dustin Johnson equalled Fowler’s score of 68 but thanks to rounds of 70 and 68 previously, Johnson sits at the top of the betting at 9/4 despite being a shot behind Darren Clarke.
Every neutral that packs in to Sandwich tomorrow will be cheering on Clarke and a restless night lays in wait for the Ulsterman.
Leading the Open by a shot, Clarke is 5/2 to secure the title tomorrow but will have to fend off challenges from the likes of Martin Kaymer, Phil Mickelson and Thomas Bjorn if he is to triumph.
Both Mickelson and Kaymer are five shots off the pace at level par for the tournament, but both players are 16/1 to win the Open, the same price as Lucas Glover and Miguel Angel Jimenez who are four shots off the leader.
Thomas Bjorn sits alongside Fowler on two-under-par and the Dane, who is 14/1 to win the title, would also prove a popular winner with both the fans and headline writers.
One man to watch tomorrow is Anthony Kim who is at level par with Mickelson and Kaymer.
At 33/1 the American looks a huge each-way price considering his third place finish at the 2010 Masters and his seventh place finish in the 2008 Open.
