Johnson, McIlroy and Mickelson among Pebble Beach contenders

The PGA Tour heads to California and the ever-popular Pro-Am event at Pebble Beach.
Jordan Spieth won this event 12 months ago, but a slow start to the season means the American is up against it this time around.
Spieth missed the cut in his last outing at the Phoenix Open, and has failed to break into the top-eight in any of his three events in 2018.
Dustin Johnson is in good shape.
A two-time winner of the event, the South Carolina swinger kicked off the year by winning the Tournament of Champions, and followed that up with a ninth-place finish at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship.
But the form man is arguably Rory McIlroy.
The Northern Irishman is desperate to reassert himself at the top following a difficult couple of years.
McIlroy finished third in that Abu Dhabi event, and went one better a week later with an excellent run to second at the Dubai Desert Classic.
Another man looking to get back to his best is Jason Day.
The former world number one heads to Pebble Beach on a high after claiming the Farmers Insurance Open in a play-off.
Looking beyond the main favourites, plenty will find Phil Mickelson a price worth backing.
Lefty has consistently come good at the California venue – he’s a four-time winner.
And having been runner-up just two years ago, he could well compete at the sharp end again.
Gary Woodland is another contender available at a chunky price.
The 33-year-old landed his first PGA Tour win in four years last weekend, storming to victory at the Phoenix Open.
