Euro 2024: Kenny Miller gives prediction for Scotland v Switzerland
Published:
Kenny Miller has given his prediction to Ladbrokes for Scotland's Euro 2024 fixture against Switzerland on Wednesday evening.
The Scotland legend also expresses number nine issue and sings praises of Tartan Army ahead of their game with Switzerland in Group A.
- "It's heart over head for me, right now, because after watching Switzerland against Hungary, I would say they're in a much better place to win on Wednesday night."
- "Listen, this team is capable of winning. There's no doubt about it. I've absolutely no doubt about that; they can win the game. But if they're going to win it, everything has to be on point."
- "What doesn't help at this moment in time is that your number nine is so important, especially in tournaments like this. The problem is that there are still questions around who best suits that position."
- "I'm sure the Scots will have consumed enough beer in Germany that they might have already forgotten about last Friday's game!"
- "One thing is for sure, the fans will always be there as the 12th man, and this team have earned the right to have the backing of these supporters. The players now just need to give these fans something to celebrate."
- "I'm sure the Scots are out there enjoying their time in Germany... I've seen a lot of the footage, and a lot of pictures of the guys out there. Listen, they're having a ball, that's for sure. And I've no doubt that they'll be doing their bit on Wednesday night... I just hope the team can repay that with a good result!"
We can absolutely beat the Swiss, but I'm backing a score draw tonight...
It's heart over head for me, right now, because after watching Switzerland against Hungary, I would say they're in a much better place to win on Wednesday night. They're flying high off the back of that win, and they'll fancy their chances of beating us and progressing to the knockouts as a result. I said this before the start of the tournament, but we look at this group and feel Switzerland and Hungary are the two sides we could take points from. But, at the same time, they'd look at Scotland and fancy their chances - maybe not of getting a nailed-on win, but we'd be identified as the game in which they'd have the best chance of winning.
It's going to be a really tough game. My head says a positive draw - and maybe even that's a bit of my heart speaking! If I'm being realistic, I'm not going to make crazy predictions and say we'll win by two or three. We've got it in us that we can go and get a draw, which would take things to the last game. A draw on Wednesday would be a huge bounce back after Friday's result. I'd definitely take a draw, but I think it'll need to be a score draw, because I don't see us keeping a clean sheet.
Listen, this team is capable of winning. There's no doubt about it. I've absolutely no doubt about that; they can win the game. But if they're going to win it, everything has to be on point. We can't be conceding early goals, we need to start displaying a bit more of that control and quality that we had in the early stages of the qualifying campaign. There's no reason we can't win the game, but we need a lot of things to go our way. We need our goalkeeper to have a good night. I felt he could've got a really strong hand on that opener against Germany... we need to defend well, and we need to take our moments.

We have a problem when it comes to that number nine spot...
What doesn't help at this moment in time is that your number nine is so important, especially in tournaments like this. Not just in terms of goals, but in terms of getting you up the pitch, taking the pressure off, and doing that job really, really well. The problem is that there are still questions around who best suits that position. Is it Che Adams, is it Lawrence Shankland? By the way, I think Tommy Conway comes into the conversation now.
Lyndon Dykes is a huge loss, because he gives you a different kind of profile up there. See, if you go through the big teams, most teams at this tournament, in fact, you can identify their number nine, and more often than not, that guy will be a big part of the team. We're still asking questions around who our best number nine is. You know, no one has really gone in there and made that place their own, apart from maybe Dykes. Lyndon grabbed that jersey and made it his own. For the here and now, it might be Che, it might be Lawrence, it might even be Tommy.
Steve Clarke has seen these guys in training for a number of weeks, and he's known them for a number of years now. So, he knows exactly where their strengths are, and you've got to trust him as the manager. He's done a wonderful job, and so you've got to trust him to be making the right decision as to who to give that responsibility to.
It's up to the players to give this loyal Tartan Army something to celebrate
I'm sure the Scots will have consumed enough beer in Germany that they might have already forgotten about last Friday's game! Listen, the Tartan Army will go into Wednesday's game fully backing the team and the manager. They'll expect an improvement, there's no doubt about that. They'll never lose hope, especially with the way that tournament is structured now. You just never know what might happen in the next few days.
One thing is for sure, the fans will always be there as the 12th man, and this team have earned the right to have the backing of these supporters. The players now just need to give these fans something to celebrate. No Scotland No Party... what we need to see is a much higher level and, look, a Scotland goalscorer might help things!
These fans will be turning up in full voice, as they always are, whether the team is in good times or bad. We're in a good time right now, by the way. We've qualified for a second successive European Championship and we're going up against some elite competition. There's still a lot of positives we should be looking at. The fans will still be super positive, that the team will produce the goods against Switzerland and against Hungary. And the team has to believe it as well, because they've achieved these types of results before.
Listen, the emotion these Scotland fans go through... they'll have woken up on Monday morning full of positivity, and by this morning, trepidation and anxiety will be kicking in! I suppose that comes with supporting any team. I'm sure the Scots are out there enjoying their time in Germany... I've seen a lot of the footage, and a lot of pictures of the guys out there. Listen, they're having a ball, that's for sure. And I've no doubt that they'll be doing their bit on Wednesday night... I just hope the team can repay that with a good result!
