Ladbrokes World Cup Half Time Quiz
Published:
We’re bringing the half-time entertainment to the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the launch of the industry’s first-ever live free-to-play game, Ladbrokes Halftime Quiz.
The World Cup is the biggest event in the global sporting calendar so it’s only right that we step up and add even more excitement to the big matches with a new product that’s fit for the occasion – and Ladbrokes Halftime Quiz is just that. It’s a new and exciting live free-to-play game that will keep Ladbrokes at the front of our customer’s minds during the big games this winter. Not only will it appeal to our existing customers, but we’re expecting it to be a winner with new audiences too.
Customers will get their first taste of our new World Cup offering during Sunday’s opening match between Qatar and Ecuador.
How it works… Are you watching closely?
Put simply, we’ll be teaching customers to keep their eyes peeled for all sorts of things this World Cup!
After watching all the twists and turns during the first half of every World Cup match, fans can log in to their Ladbrokes account during the interval and play a live quiz that’s all about the events of the first 45 minutes… Which player took the first throw-in? Who assisted the first goal? What colour are the referee’s socks?
Get the questions right and they’ll make their way up the Halftime Quiz leaderboard, with bonus points also on offer for speed and predicting the final score. The leaders at the end of each game will win cash prizes plus free bet rewards, so there’s a great reason to return every match day.
We learned with our 5-a-Side Leaderboard product that our customers love competing against one another, so we’ve taken that concept one step further this winter too. Customers who want to play against their family and friends will be able to compete in private leaderboards through the simple sharing of a link – because we all know that beating your friends is even sweeter than beating the bookie!
A World Cup like no other…
This World Cup will be different from any that has gone before it and with that is a great opportunity for us to reach a new audience of recreational players. Usually, the World Cup conjures up images of sitting in the summer sunshine, watching the games with your mates on a big screen. But the timing of this tournament means that things will look a little different. This time around, the tournament kicks off in the winter, with action underway from as early as 10 am and up to 4 back-to-back games a day. A feast of football, but one which will be enjoyed from homes, desks, offices and shops – or even whilst doing a bit of Christmas shopping!
We felt that it was important to deliver a product that would enhance our customers’ experience of watching this huge tournament but with social elements ingrained within it, meaning that they can still experience the World Cup with their mates, even if they aren’t all together. We truly believe Ladbrokes have hit the back of the net with Halftime Quiz and I can’t wait to see how it lands with customers.
It’s a team game!
A product like this needs a strong team behind it, and we’re really happy to have been able to put together a strong squad to see us through to the final on 18th December.
Robert Kivanc, Cravy Dias and Jamie O’Brien have been brought in from our UK Retail estate, and they’re joined by Charlie McKinnon from Product, to become our Product Operations Team based at our Stratford office for the duration of the tournament. These four stars will be working with Joe Waine, our Operations Manager, to build the half-time questions themselves. They’ll also be developing loads more additional content within the Halftime Quiz hub, including other quizzes, polls, line-up pickers and much more that our customers can engage with before, during and after the matches.
With the Halftime Quiz available to all Ladbrokes customers, it’s great to have a part of our substantial retail team represented here.
A big thanks also to our partners at Monterosa, plus the brilliant Tom Salmon, Dimitrios Vorisis, Akila Chandran and Abhinav Goel with their respective teams, all of our excellent IVY colleagues, and Joseph Waine and his new Operations team in Stratford. Shout out to everyone from the digital side of the business, in Marketing, Content, CRM, RTCRM and Propositions who have helped us bring this incredible new product to market in time for the World Cup.
Good luck to everyone across the business over the next few weeks. Let’s hope it’s a great tournament (and that England & Wales do us proud!)
