Ladbrokes League 1: Top two pull away as Dunfermline and Ayr bag wins

The two-horse race is back on in Ladbrokes League 1 after Dunfermline and Ayr United continued to brush aside anyone that stands in their way.
Alan Trouten got the only goal of the game at Somerset Park as The Honest Men maintained their unbeaten run which now stretches to 13 games – the longest in the SPFL.
Victory was enough to maintain their hold on top spot, but their nearest (and potentially only) rivals were more than capable of matching them.
Goals from Michael Moffat and Shaun Byrne either side of half-time gave Dunfermline the three points at the expense of Airdrieonians.
The win means there is now a gap of 10 points between the Pars in second and the Diamonds in third.
At the bottom of the table Brechin’s recent hint of life has been snuffed out as City fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Cowdenbeath.
The Blue Brazil have now gone without defeat in four straight matches, three without conceding.
A Dean Brett penalty alongside goals from Ali El Zubaidi and Greig Spence saw Cowden’s price to fall into League 2 pushed out from 11/8 to 2/1.
The fourth and final fixture in the division saw the spoils shared between Stenhousemuir and Forfar as the pair played out a 2-2 draw at Ochilview.
The hosts had goalkeeper Jamie Barclay sent off before the half-hour mark before Iain Campbell and Danny Denholm gave the Loons a two-goal advantage.
But in the most unlikely of fight-backs Stenny showed dogged determination in the latter stages, Colin McMenamin giving them hope before Jason Scotland added his fourth goal in three games from the penalty spot to steal a point.
The draw means Brown Ferguson’s men maintain their three point advantage over Athletic in the chase for the play-off spots.
And with the way the top two are playing at the moment, that looks likely to be the best the rest can hope for.
