Ladbrokes League 2: Welcome return home will lift Elgin

Having witnessed a bunched start to the campaign there is now one clear leader atop Ladbrokes League 2 with Annan Athletic the ones to catch.

And according to bookies at least the Galabankies are well-placed to cement their position at the head of the table.

However, Athletic’s rise isn’t the only sub-plot worth watching this weekend.

Here’s our preview of all five fixtures:

Annan Athletic v Arbroath

The visitors’ mini-revival has certainly stalled of late with Arbroath winless in three and struggling for consistency.

By contrast, league leaders Annan have lost just once in their last seven games and are especially impressive on home turf having gone unbeaten in eight at Galabank, winning six of those contests.

There’s better value to be had than just a straight single though. Five of Annan’s last seven home wins have come with both teams scoring.

Best Bet: Annan to win 2-1 @ 7/1

Berwick v Clyde

A disastrous run of four straight defeats in all competitions will have Berwick fans praying for a change in fortunes but they may have to wait a little longer to taste success once again.

Barry Ferguson’s Clyde are starting to look upwardly mobile following a run of just one defeat in their last six league games.

The visitors are also fairly solid, if unspectacular, on the road having won two, drawn two and lost two away from Broadwood this term.

A repeat of the pair’s score draw back in September could be on the cards.

Best Bet: Berwick 1-1 Clyde @ 11/2

East Stirling v Montrose

Montrose took an absolute pasting in midweek and their away form is hardly a reason to be confident in them responding positively here.

Since a Scottish Cup humbling at the start of the month Paul Hegarty’s Gable Endies have lost back-to-back league games and they could be vulnerable against the bottom side.

East Stirling are hardly pulling up trees themselves but they’ve won four of their last six at home.

Best Bet: East Stirling to win @ 13/8

Elgin v East Fife

The hosts have a great chance of leapfrogging their opponents this weekend and if you judge them on home form alone you’ve got to be feeling pretty confident.

City are unbeaten in six at Borough Briggs, winning five of those contests while East Fife have just one win from their last five games.

Therefore, the advice is to side with Jim Weir’s outfit.

Best Bet: Elgin to win @ 5/4

Queen’s Park v Stirling Albion

The Spiders did their goal difference plenty of good when beating Montrose 6-1 on Tuesday night and they’ll be eyeing more success when Stirling come to Hampden.

However, Queen’s will have their work cut out with Albion on a three-game winning streak and unbeaten in seven in all competitions.

Queen’s haven’t won this corresponding fixture since 2012 so don’t be too hasty to go for a home win.

Best Bet: Double Chance Stirling Albion or Draw @ 3/4
