Stopagge-time leveller in La Liga lands big Ladbrokes treble

Late drama in Spain helped turn £6.50 into £31.5k for one plucky Ladbrokes punter on Tuesday night.

The customer predicted three teams to be winning at half-time in their respective matches (Chelsea, Espanyol, Gabon), only for all three sides to go on to draw (v Brighton, Cadiz, Morocco), at odds of 4,844/1.

While the Chelsea v Brighton leg landed with relative ease, the bet looked to be all-but off when Nayef Aguerd put the ball in his own net to give Gabon a 2-1 lead in the 81st minute, but Achraf Hakimi’s 84th-minute equaliser ensured two of the legs were in the bag.

However, the drama was far from over with the punter’s attention turning to La Liga. The first half of the bet was already in, after a 10th-minute strike from Manu Morlanes sent the visitors in 1-0 up at half-time.

Alvaro Negredo found the net for the hosts early in the second half, and the customer was on for the huge win, but for what Cadiz thought was a match-winning strike from Ivan Alejo in the 91st minute of the game.

Espanyol were far from finished though, and despite the referee adding five minutes on at the end of the game, Raul de Tomas found the net in the 96th minute for the away team, ensuring the points were shared and a whopping £31,492.50 was heading to the Ladbrokes customer.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “This has to go down as one of the bets of the season so far. At astronomical odds of 4,844/1, our plucky punter had to witness no less than four goals coming in the final 10 minutes of their selected games, all of which went their way.”

He added: “The game in Spain is where all the drama was, though; with both teams taking the lead, VAR overturning two goals and, of course, that 96th-minute equaliser for the visitors. We can only assume our customer is now a huge Espanyol fan from this point onwards!”
