Lancaster England’s mission expected to meet South African snag
Published:STUART LANCASTER is the new man in charge but England’s chances in the South Africa tour remain slim, according to Ladbrokes.
The interim boss was a 1/6 chance of being appointed as the permanent coach in the aftermath of a successful Six Nations tournament, and on Wednesday he was the clear 1/10 favourite with 80 per cent of bets placed on Lancaster being given the nod on a long-term basis.
England’s tour of South Africa will be a tough test for the new manager and it’s odds-on at 4/7 they don’t win any matches against the world no.3 team. But should England continue their Six Nations form it’s 5/4 they pick up one or more test victories in June.
Warren Gatland may be lined up to lead the British and Irish Lions to success down under next year, however, Lancaster earns a 6/4 quote of joining him as part of the coaching team in Australia.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Since the Six Nations finished all fingers have been pointing at Lancaster. The big test now is to see if he can lead England to success on the World stage and not just in Europe.”
