Lionel Messi transfer odds and potential destinations
Lionel Messi’s 17-year spell with Barcelona is over after the club announced they were unable to strike a deal that satisfied LaLiga’s financial regulations.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner scored 672 goals in 778 appearances since his debut in 2004 but is now a free agent, with PSG 4/9 favourites to land the superstar.
At 34, he does not have too many years at the top level but we’re looking at the clubs that could afford to sign him on astronomical wages and their Lionel Messi transfer odds.
Paris St-Germain
The French giants are a club unlikely to baulk at a hefty wage packet to land such a signing, one which would boost marketing revenues around the globe.
Linking up again with former Barcelona team-mate Neymar would be another lure, as would helping develop the talents of France forward Kylian Mbappe.
The Ligue 1 giants have made some high-profile signings this summer with Achraf Hakimi, Georginio Wijnaldum, Sergio Ramos and Gianluigi Donnarumma joining the Ligue 1 club who are hot favourites in the Lionel Messi transfer odds to land the biggest of them all.
Manchester City
Messi already has a strong bond with City boss Pep Guardiola from their time together at the Nou Camp. While City would appear to be able to more than match Messi’s personal terms, they have already signed Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for £100million this week and are said to have their sights on England captain Harry Kane.

Kane will be difficult to prise away from Spurs, whose chairman Daniel Levy is one of the toughest negotiators around, so we go 4/1 in the Lionel Messi transfer odds on the Argentina superstar ending up at the Etihad.
Any MLS club
Messi turned 34 in June, an age when some high-profile players might eye up a move Stateside to follow the likes of David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic into Major League Soccer.
LaLiga’s record goalscorer would unquestionably be the biggest name ever to set foot in the MLS if he were to make such a move, but an MLS club is 10/1 to land probably the greatest player to grace the sport.
Newell’s Old Boys
Messi started out with the Rosario club when he was six years old and they continue to hold a special place in his heart.
Sentiment, though, only pays for so much in football, and the chances of a switch back to his homeland appear slim, with Newell’s likely to struggle to meet Messi’s wage demands.
