Liverpool v Palace betting tips and odds

Liverpool return to domestic action this weekend following Wednesday’s rollercoaster 3-2 victory over AC Milan in their Champions League group opener.

The Reds are 1/5 to win Saturday’s clash with Crystal Palace who earned their first win of the season last week with a 3-0 victory over 10-man Tottenham.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are one of five unbeaten teams in the Premier League but let’s see if the Eagles can cause an upset with our Liverpool v Palace betting tips.

Match Odds

The Reds, 9/2 in the Premier League title odds, head into this clash with history on their side having won the last eight meetings with the south Londoners who have lost the last three by an aggregate score of 11-0.

Klopp made four midweek changes to the side that had beaten Leeds 3-0 on Sunday and his decision to rest Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk nearly came back to haunt him as Milan came back from a goal down to lead 2-1 at half-time.

Mo Salah then atoned for a first-half penalty miss by equalising before Jordan Henderson sealed the points with a half-volley from just outside the area.

With some of Liverpool’s key players likely to start, they are 20/23 to win to nil, 8/11 to be ahead at half-time and full-time or 27/20 to win both halves as they have done in the last three meetings.

Palace have looked bright under new boss Patrick Vieira but they lost 3-0 at Chelsea on the opening weekend of the season and a repeat of that scoreline is 6/1.

The Merseysiders have won three and drawn one of their four games and in all three victories they were ahead after half an hour which can be backed at 6/5 in our Liverpool v Palace betting tips.

Palace should not be dismissed though having held West Ham to a 2-2 draw and ended Spurs’ perfect start to the season, so we go 19/10 on them to lose and score or it’s 17/2 on the hosts to win from behind as they did at Anfield in the 2018-19 campaign.

Talking Tactics

Klopp will not deviate from his preferred 4-3-3, but Mane and Van Dijk are almost certain to return for Saturday’s game, with Divock Origi and Joe Gomez likely to make way.

In midfield, Henderson may retain his place and Thiago Alcantara is expected to be recalled at the expense of Naby Keita.

Palace striker Odsonne Edouard scored a double from off the bench on his debut last weekend and is pushing for a starting role, with Christian Benteke potentially making way.

Vieira also likes a 4-3-3 in which Conor Gallagher and James McArthur play either side of Cheikhou Kouyate in midfield.

Goalscorer Odds

No-one loves playing against Palace more than Mane who has scored nine goals in the last eight meetings, yet the Senegal attacker is 7/2 to break the deadlock, behind Salah (12/5) and Diogo Jota (3/1).

Mane scored the opening goal in three of those games and can be backed at 5/4 simply to find the net in Saturday’s Liverpool v Palace betting tips.

Henderson scored in the 7-0 drubbing of the Eagles at Selhurst Park and is 11/2 to repeat the trick, the same price as Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Edouard and Benteke are the 11/1 co-favourites to draw first blood from the Palace contingent or 7/2 to breach Liverpool’s defence, the same odds as Wilfried Zaha.
