Lord Wood: Only an ‘Anyone but Trump’ campaign can stop Donald

Labour Peer Lord Wood has spoken of his belief that only a concerted campaign by his Republican rivals can stop the controversial billionaire Donald Trump from landing the party nomination.
Speaking at a 2016 US Election preview night organised by Ladbrokes, the former aide to Ed Miliband told assembled journalists that it would be difficult to envisage a viable challenge emerging.
“The only thing that can stop Trump is if the other candidates decide to bury the hatchet and coalesce around an ‘Anyone but Trump’ campaign” he said.
“Personally I think Ted Cruz is so toxic and so hated by Republicans that [Marco] Rubio is the only person who can possibly be the ‘Anyone but Trump’ candidate. He’s playing the 3-2-1 strategy – third in Iowa, second in New Hampshire and then winning in South Carolina. That’s a possibility but not a probability.”
Trump is now the even-money favourite to win the race to be the Republican Presidential nominee having been as big as 100/1 when originally announcing his intention to stand.

And according to Lord Wood, that sustained betting support is fully justified give the cloak of invincibility surrounding the 69-year-old businessman.
“The market has discounted anything that comes out of his mouth now as it doesn’t’ matter what he says, it doesn’t hurt him” he added.
“The second thing that’s remarkable about Trump is that he polls 30% basically everywhere, he’s incredibly solid across the country. There’s very little regional or state variation, there’s a little bit, but not much.”
