Lucas Perez could be heading for Arsenal exit door

In a move that will shock absolutely nobody, Arsenal forward Lucas Perez is rumoured to be heading back to Deportivo La Coruna.

With his opportunites already limited to bit-part appearances, the 28-year-old will find himself even further down the pecking order with the signing of French international, Alexandre Lacazette.

It’s been an odd time at the Emirates for the former Dynamo Kiev frontman. When he has been given the chance to shine, he’s generally grabbed it with both hands.

The uncapped Spanish striker managed six goals and three assists in 19 appearances in total last season, a number of them from the bench. Among them was a handful of spectacular efforts that really shone a spotlight on how talented a player he is.

For one reason or another, though, Arsene Wenger hasn’t saw fit to put more trust in him and will look to recoup much of, if not all the £17m they spent taking him from the Riazor last summer.

“If I am the manager I would love to keep him but we have to sit down and see if he has a realistic chance to play,” he said in May.

“He’s a top quality striker but I couldn’t give him the games he wants and deserves, I confess that. I feel a bit sorry for him.”

It’s an unfortune situation for the player but should he return to Deportivo for a fee that suits all the parties concerned, he can return to Spain knowing he performed – largely – to the best of his ability.
