Magnussen an attractive price to make Q3 at Japanese Grand Prix
Published:Japan’s famous Suzuka circuit will still soon come alive to the unmistakable sound of Formula One cars purring around it and it’s our job to offer some betting insight on the race the drivers all love.
There’s no point getting ahead of ourselves, though, so rather than pick the winner straight off, it’s preferable to get stuck into the best bets for qualifying.
Kevin Magnussen to reach Q3 @ 4/9
Jenson Button’s teammate hasn’t been able to reach the giddy heights of his runner-up spot in the opening Grand Prix of the season, but he has consistently put himself in the final qualifying session.
The Dane has successfully negotiated Q2 10 out of 14 times and more importantly in all of the last seven, where he even started from the second row of the grid in Germany.
Lewis Hamilton to record fastest Q3 lap @ 8/13
The season-long debate over which Mercedes will lead from the front continues in Japan and in this two-horse race we’re backing the British steed to make it three straight poles.
Rosberg is yet to get to grips with this track either in qualification – where his best position remains seventh in six attempts – or the race, as we’ve already discussed.
Meanwhile, Hamilton has started from third in three of the last four seasons at Suzuka.
Qualifying winning margin 0.151 – 0.300 secs @ 7/4
It’s fair to say that time is of the essence with this niche bet, but this could yet be a profitable market to explore.
Although the last two poles have been claimed by a gnat’s whisker by Hamilton ahead of Rosberg – falling into the 0.001 – 0.150 secs bracket – the discrepancies in the feuding Silver Arrows’ previous best at Suzuka adds attraction to a wider split on the victorious lap.
