Man City 5/1 to smash world transfer record for Tottenham star
Published:
Paul Pogba’s world record £89m transfer to Manchester United could be set to be smashed by their local rivals Manchester City, with 5/1 on offer for Pep Guardiola to break the current record for Tottenham’s midfield magician Dele Alli.
The 20-year-old has been in scintillating form for Spurs this season, with 13 goals and five assists under his belt in all competitions, including a brace against title-topping Chelsea last month.
While Lilywhites boss Mauricio Pochettino would obviously be reluctant to sell one of his prize assets, City’s financial muscle could well see the North-West giants offer a very enticing sum to the north London club. And Alli himself could be tempted by the prospect of joining a side who’ve won five major trophies since 2010.
With Pep Guardiola believed to be very keen on the 20-year-old, his odds of a move to the Etihad have dropped from 8/1 to just 2/1, with 5s for them to shatter the transfer record for him.
However, the Citizens could face competition from down the road, with 5/1 on offer for the player to join Jose Mourinho’s revamped Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are are 7/1 shots and Real Madrid (9/1) the most likely option if he leaves these shores.
A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Pep may be set to make Tottenham an offer they can’t refuse – one that could see Alli complete a fairytale journey from MK Dons to world’s most expensive.”
Next up for Man City is a trip to Bournemouth on Monday night, with 4/9 for the Sky Blues to enjoy victory – a result which would see them leapfrog Alli’s current club Tottenham into second place.
