Man City result boosts Sunderland chances of 1-0 win over Everton
Published:Bottom of the table, four straight Premier League defeats and more points on the road than on their own patch this season. It doesn’t bode well for Sunderland improving their dire run when Everton visit the Stadium of Light next.
Looking solely at these results, alongside the fact that Everton have won five on the bounce, it seems a no brainer to back Roberto Martinez’ team to triumph again here at 4/5.
A victory for Everton would also confirm their highest ever Premier League points tally, but it is hard to get too excited about an odds-on price on a team that have only taken maximum points in six of their 16 away games this season.
Instead, it may pay to not only expect this fixture to turn the form book upside down, but also to enhance profits further with a dabble into the correct scoreline offerings.
Sunderland have already proved against Manchester City that when they tend to get on a bandwagon, they are not prone to jumping off.
In each of the last three season’s now, Man City have fallen to 1-0 defeats at the Stadium of Light and a similar streak is developing against Everton.
Having been stuck in a rut of 16 winless games against the Toffees, Sunderland have triumphed in the last two between the pair, by their preferred 1-0 scoreline.
Another hat-trick of 1-0 successes can be backed here at 11/1, with Sunderland 7/2 to simply pick up a victory that would give them half a chance of escaping the drop, given they still have Swansea, West Brom and Cardiff to host.
What may prove most critical to Everton’s prospects of victory is whether or not Martinez opts to start Gerard Deulofeu.
The diminutive Spaniard has only started six Premier League games this season and Everton have won them all.
He has started both of the last two on the road, which suggests he may receive the nod here and can be backed at 5/2 to net at any time in the 90 minutes.
