Man City v Southampton betting tips and odds

Manchester City enjoyed a thrilling 6-3 Champions League victory over Leipzig on Wednesday night ahead of Saturday’s clash with Southampton who are 16/1 to cause a massive upset.

City are 2/13 favourites to beat Saints who have yet to win this season although they have drawn their last three matches.

Goals have featured heavily in this fixture in recent years so let’s examine some of the markets and odds in our Man City v Southampton betting tips.

Match Odds

City bounced back from their opening-weekend defeat by Spurs with three successive victories against Norwich, Arsenal and Leicester without conceding.

Pep Guardiola’s side are 4/5 to win to nil for a fourth time, but Southampton have scored in their last four visits to the Etihad all of which ended in defeat.

City are 7/4 to win and concede once more, and goals at both ends is available at 23/20, while the hosts are 5/2 to win and over 3.5 goals with Saints also on target.

Saints seem to be coping well with the sales of Danny Ings and Jannik Vestergaard during the transfer window having drawn with Manchester United, Newcastle and West Ham, but they are 7/1 to share the points this weekend.

The Premier League champions won this fixture 5-2 last season and having already put five past the Canaries, the Gunners and six past Leipzig, they are 4/1 to go nap again as one of Saturday’s Man City v Southampton betting tips.

Although Southampton have lost eight of their last nine meetings with City, they did beat Guardiola’s side 14 months ago and are 9/2 to win or draw in the double chance market.

Talking Tactics

City failed to buy a striker during the transfer window but have bagged 17 goals in their last four games so as things stand they don’t seem to be missing the scoring prowess of Sergio Aguero, now with Barcelona.

Guardiola is sticking with Ferran Torres as the main man up front and he could lead the line again in a 4-3-3 boosted by the return of Kevin De Bruyne, who played 70 minutes on Wednesday.

Nathan Ake partnered Ruben Dias at the back, but as usual Guardiola is expected to ring the changes for the visit of Saints whose manager Ralph Hasenhuttl dumped his 4-4-2 formation for a 4-1-4-1 for the goalless draw with West Ham in which Adam Armstrong led the line and Che Adams stayed on the bench.

Armando Broja made quite an impression as a second-half sub, hitting the post and having a late header cleared off the line, so he has pressed his case for a starting role.

Goalscorer Odds

City have been spreading the goals throughout the team this season, but Torres and Raheem Sterling, who came on as a sub on Wednesday, are 7/2 to break the deadlock or 21/20 and 23/20 respectively to find the net.

Five City players are 4/1 to get the opener, including Riyad Mahrez who scored from the penalty spot against the Germans.

Of the outsiders, Joao Cancelo struck a brilliant fifth on Wednesday and is 18/1 and 5/1 in the two markets as one of our Man City v Southampton betting tips.

Armstrong, Broja and Adams are 4/1, 9/2 and 9/2 to get on the scoresheet for Saints, with James Ward-Prowse priced at 6/1.
