Man United planning next big transfer splash with French star

Manchester United could argue that their transfer business during the summer window was the best in the country. Not resting on their laurels, they are already planning to make waves in a year’s time.

The Mirror suggest Jose Mourinho has made Antoine Griezmann his number one target for next season, believing the pursuit of the Atletico Madrid striker will be similar to the deal for Paul Pogba earlier this term.

Griezmann is quickly emerging as one of the world’s best forwards and won the Euro 2016 golden boot with six goals for France during the off-season.

Having added Zlatan Ibrahimovic to his strike force already, Mourinho clearly wants big-name players leading his line at Old Trafford and has designs on Griezmann following in the Swede’s footsteps.

The 25-year-old has scored exactly 22 league goals in both of his two seasons with Diego Simeone’s side, having switched from La Liga rivals Real Sociedad at the beginning of the 2014/15 campaign.

His development while at the Vicente Calderon Stadium has been notable, to the point where United may need to fork out another world-record fee to land their man.

The Red Devils already broke the mark for the highest transfer fee this summer when bringing midfielder Pogba back to the club.

But if reports are to be believed, we could be talking about a similar story for his countryman this time next year.
