Man United v St Etienne: Red Devils well priced for comfortable win
Published:
They may be heading into a Last 32 clash against a side yet to lose in this season’s Europa League, but Manchester United should certainly have enough in their locker to see off St Etienne this week.
And while the 3/10 on offer is simply too short a price to tip up, we’re looking at United to win with a -1 handicap at 10/11.
That’s something they’ve done on three occasions already in this competition under Mourinho.
They’ll also know the importance of getting the job done early. Only one side has won away at St Etienne in Ligue 1 this season, so the last thing United will want to do is head to France needing a victory to see them through.
Remarkably, United have never lost a home match against French opposition, while St Etienne were beaten by the Red Devils the last time the pair met. That was back in the 1977-78 campaign though, where goals from Stuart Pearson and Steve Coppell gave United a 2-0 win.
It’s 9/2 for a repeat of that scoreline, while 9/1 says the visitors cause a huge upset and head back to France with a win under their belt.
If you’re looking at goalscorers, there’s only one name worth considering – Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The United ace has been in exceptional form since moving to Old Trafford back in the summer, and already has 19 goals to his name in all competitions. Add to that the fact that he’s scored an incredible 14 goals in 13 games against St Etienne while at Paris Saint-Germain, and the 7/10 on him scoring any time looks incredibly tempting.
We’ll also see the Pogba brothers come toe-to-toe, as Paul takes on his older sibling Florentin for the first time in their professional careers.
It’s 7/1 for Paul to open the scoring, while his brother is much less likely to do exactly that at 40/1 – although he could pose a threat on set pieces.
