Man United announce Ruben Amorim as Erik Ten Hag's replacement
Published:
Man United have announced that Ruben Amorim will become the club's next head coach following the sacking of Erik ten Hag on October 28.
Reports from several reputable sources, including The Athletic, claimed in the week United have finalised a deal with Sporting Lisbon for their coach, and that's now been confirmed by the club.
This news comes after the club opted to sack Ten Hag on October 27 following their 2-1 loss to West Ham at the London Stadium, which left the club in 14th place after nine games.
Man United confirm Ruben Amorim appointment
The Telegraph reported on October 31 that Sporting Lisbon were expected to make a formal announcement indicating that Amorim will be leaving to become Man United's next manager.
Sporting are expected to announce on Thursday that they have reached full agreement to allow Ruben Amorim to leave and become Manchester United’s new head coach...
And 24 hours later, that's what has happened, as Amorim has been officially confirmed as United's next head coach, a role he'll be taking up from November 11, during the international break.
Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Head Coach of the men’s first team, subject to work visa requirements. He will join until June 2027 with a club option of an additional year, once he has fulfilled his obligations to his current club. He will join Manchester United on Monday 11 November.
Amorim was one of the names linked with Liverpool in the summer, following Jurgen Klopp's exit, but the club opted to go with Arne Slot instead, and that's a decision that looks like it's paid off.
However, whilst a move to the Reds might not have worked out, Amorim is now the manager of Liverpool's biggest rivals, with a Man United switch confirmed to be taking place later this month.

Man United next manager odds
Interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy was the very early bookies favourite to become Man United's next permanent boss after the decision to sack Ten Hag was made public, but those odds obviously changed rather quickly.
Following news of United's desire to appoint Amorim being made public, the bookies had the Portuguese manager as the odds-on favourite to the Red Devils' next manager, with Van Nistelrooy and Gareth Southgate in second and third respectively.
Now Amorim's appointment has been officially confirmed, with Van Nistelrooy set to lead the team out for another three games between now and the international break, when Amorim will enter the fray.

Van Nistelrooy will be in charge for United's big game at Old Trafford against Chelsea on November 3 in the Premier League, with Amorim set to officially start his role during the upcoming November international break.
Amorim's first game in one of the biggest managerial positions will be an away trip to relegation threatened Ipswich on November 24, just under two weeks after he takes charge.
However, fans don't have to wait that long to get a feel for Amorim's tactics and style of play, as Ladbrokes has already looked at how Man United could line-up under their new coach, with the likes of Leny Yoro and Kobbie Mainoo set for starring roles.
