Manchester United were founded in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR Football Club, but changed to their current name in 1902. Eight years later they moved from Newton Heath to their present Old Trafford stadium.

United are the most successful domestic club in English history, winning the top flight a record 20 times, one more than their nearest rivals Liverpool.

Only Arsenal have won the FA Cup more times than United’s 12 and they are tied for third for League Cup successes.
