Manchester United given two transfer alternatives to Cunha by ex-Premier League striker

Former Premier League striker Shane Long believes Matheus Cunha would be a good signing for Manchester United - but gave the Red Devils two potential alternatives to solve their striker issues this summer.
United are expected to target a goalscorer in the summer transfer market and Wolves striker Cunha's next club odds suggest a move to Old Trafford appears likely.
The Brazilian signed a new contract with Wolves earlier this season but is expected to be the subject of plenty of transfer interest during the summer transfer window after scoring 17 goals in all competitions in 2024/25.
Matheus Cunha next club odds
Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes, former West Brom striker Long believes Cunha has shown he has the tools to succeed at United but warned the Wolves forward that he will face plenty of pressure on his head at Ruben Amorim's strugglers.
Long said: "Matheus Cunha is an amazing player, but would he be right for Manchester United?
"It's hard to say, because he's playing at Wolves where he's kind of got the freedom to play how he wants.
"If he goes to United, there's instantly just so much pressure and expectation on his shoulders. But he seems to be a confident lad who would relish that.
"Obviously, the pictures came out after the game at Old Trafford, of him and Ruben Amorim having a chat, so the signs are there."

Long said he believes Cunha's proven Premier League experience makes him the best option for the Red Devils but did offer two alternatives, namely Mateo Retegui after scoring 24 goals for Atalanta this season, and Ipswich's Liam Delap, who is expected to have plenty of suitors this summer.
"There's also the guy at Atalanta, Mateo Retegui, and there's Liam Delap at Ipswich, who a few teams are looking at," Long, who scored 29 Premier League goals during his playing career, added.
"I think Cunha would probably be the best option, but if they wanted to go a bit more out there and take a chance - which I don't think they should do - then Retegui could be the other option.
"I think they should go with tried and tested, though, and Cunha has that experience, he's still quite young and he's an exciting player who I'm sure the fans would love.
"At United, it's just about hitting the ground running, I think. If you get that confidence as soon as you walk through the door there, you can just take right off."
