Maria Kirilenko hoping to cause Kuznetsova upset
Published:Maria Kirilenko faces Svetlana Kuznetsova on Arthur Ashe court today and is unbeaten against the women’s 11 seed this year – however both matches were played on clay.
Kirilenko enters the tournament on the back of a semi-final appearance at the Pilot Pen tournament and will be unfazed by facing Kuznetsova on Arthur Ashe considering her winning record and is 2/1 to win.
Kuznetsova also enters the tournament in fine form, winning the Mercury Insurance Open before losing in a semi-final to Caroline Wozniacki in the Rogers Cup, and will take heart from her two hard court victories over Kirilenko.
Their two matches this year have both gone the distance and the form suggests this match will be no different – Kuznetsova is 11/4 to win 2-1.
Before that match, Jelena Jankovic takes on Kaia Kanepi and Kanepi will also be hopeful of an upset as her oppoonet has yet to discover top form on the hard courts this year.
Jankovic has struggled to victories over Simona Halep and Mirjana Lucic in the first two rounds and both her and Kanepi are 5/6 to win the match.
The two are 1-1 in head-to-heads but Kanepi won their only meeting on a hard court 2-0 in 2009.
Kanepi eased through her second round match against Akgul Amanmuradova and is very backable at 11/4 to win 2-1.
Elsewhere Caroline Wozniacki takes on Yung-Jan Chan, the conqueror of Britain’s Anne Keothavong, and Wozniacki should have no problem dispatching of Chan in two sets as she continues her impressive form at the US Open.
Wozniacki is 1/10 to win 2-0 and continue her challenge for the US Open title, which sees her priced at 7/2.
Wozniacki is in excellent form and is a generous price at 7/2 to win the US Open. See the full US Open tennis betting market here.
