Massive money on Allardyce taking over at West Ham

A monster gamble has taken place that Sam Allardyce will become the next manager of West Ham and he is now odds-on to be named as Avram Grant’s successor at Upton Park.

Chris Hughton, Alex McLeish and Dave Jones have all had a stint of heading the next West Ham manager market in recent days, but the money has now come for former Blackburn manager Allardyce.

Allardyce is now as short as 2/9 to be the next West Ham manager and comments recently made by co-chairman David Sullivan may be significant in the market support.

Speaking at an inaugural Supporters’ Advisory Board meeting at West Ham, Sullivan reportedly revealed information stating that the vacancy had been offered to two managers.

Although no names were mentioned directly, it was indicated that both managers were British, had been involved in management in the last two years and had experience of the Premier League.

The first of these managers were said to have already turned down the position, while the second is expected to have made their decision within the next 24 hours.

Martin O’Neill has already turned the club down once in January and now they have been relegated to the Championship it is unlikely that he would have changed his mind.

O’Neill is 8/1 to be the next West Ham manager and although he is certainly one of the names towards the top of the shortlist, it would be no surprise if he was the contender to have already ruled himself out of the position.

Alongside Allardyce, Chris Hughton fits the criteria mentioned by Sullivan and is also 8/1.

Dave Jones remains solid at 5/1 to be the next West Ham manager, with Roberto Di Matteo and Neil Warnock among the other names in the running for the position.
