Bony: Modric can take Swansea back to the Premier League!

Former Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony believes Real Madrid icon Luka Modric's investment can help take the Welsh club back to the Premier League.
Former Ballon d'Or winner Modric was surprisingly announced as co-owner of the Swans last month after a minority investment in the Championship club.
The Croatian 39-year-old has promised to build an "exciting future" in South Wales after years of mid-table obscurity in the second tier.
A late run of form under Alan Sheehan during a disappointing season 2024/25 saw them comfortably avoid relegation but it was not enough to put themselves in the play-off picture.
But speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes, former fan favourite Bony is confident the six-time Champions League winner can inspire a return to the Premier League after a seven-year spell in the Championship since their relegation in 2018.
"Luka Modric’s involvement with Swansea is a big step for the club," the Ivorian, who played for the Swans over two spells, said.
"It’s a big step because of his professionalism, because of his views, because of his focus on the football side of the business.
"I’m sure that he can help bring Swansea back to the Premier League"
"I’m sure that he can help bring Swansea back to the Premier League when he retires because that’s when he’ll put more time into the club because while he's playing, he’ll be focused of Real Madrid.
"But when he stops, he’s going to be more focused on the club and changing a lot of things through the connections he’s got.
"So I'm sure that he can bring Swansea to the level where Swansea belong."
Modric is Real Madrid's most successful ever player, missing an extraordinary 28 titles with Los Blancos and cementing himself as one of the best midfielders to have played in LaLiga.
And Bony believes Modric's high standing in the game, as well as the vast experience he has from his 13 years at the Bernabeu, can provide a spark in interest in the Welsh outfit.
He added: "It’s not just good to have him from the business side but also because players will see at as more of a destination if a legend like Luka Modric is involved.
"It is like that because when you see Cristiano Ronaldo go to Saudi Arabia, a lot of players also wanted to go there because if it goes there, something must be good. Otherwise, why would he decide to go there?
"So in terms of the general model for the club, a lot of players might think that, in the next few years, Swansea is a club that has got the facilities and capacity to grow.
"They just really need some people at the top to change the way of working.
"And I'm sure that his experience from Real Madrid will help Swansea. It's a big gap between them, so he will have knowledge they don’t.
"So with that experience he has, he can bring the team to the top.
"It's good for the people of Swansea, it's good for the club and also for the country."
