Mohamed Salah hands Liverpool major boost in title race with Man City & Arsenal

Thanks to Mohamed Salah, Liverpool have been handed what can only be described as a major boost in their Premier League title race with Manchester City and Arsenal.

At the time of writing, Liverpool sit in first place in the Premier League table, with 54 points after 24 games, having only lost two games all season. One of the teams to have beaten them this campaign are Arsenal, who are sitting in third just two points behind the Reds, with the two clubs having played the same number of games.

In second are the reigning champions Man City, who Ladbrokes have priced as the favourites to win the Premier League once again come May 2024. Pep Guardiola’s side are level on points with Arsenal, but have a game in hand over Liverpool, and will go ahead of the league leaders in the table if they win that.

However, Liverpool have been handed a HUGE boost in the title race, and that’s the return from injury of Mohamed Salah, who could be set to play his first game for the Reds in 47 days by the time their away game at Brentford rolls around on Saturday.

Mohamed Salah suffered a hamstring injury in January

Salah last played for Liverpool on January 1, when he starred in the Reds incredibly impressive 4-2 win at Anfield against Newcastle. Salah may have missed a penalty, but he scored two goals and popped up with an assist, finishing the game with a SofaScore rating of 9.2.

After that, Salah went off to captain Egypt at AFCON, but the winger only managed to play a game and a half in the tournament before being withdrawn with a hamstring injury during the first half of his country’s 2-2 draw with Ghana.

Salah returned to Liverpool immediately to undergo treatment. It was said that he’d return to Egypt’s national team if they were still in the tournament by the time he was fit, AFCON has now finished and the 2019 Champions League winner has yet to return.

Liverpool have won all but one game that Mohamed Salah missed during his absence, but with Trent Alexander-Arnold being withdrawn against Burnley at half time with another suspect injury, and Dominik Szoboszlai missing the last two games with a hamstring issue, Klopp will be wanting his star player back sooner rather than later.

Mohamed Salah returns to Liverpool training

The German is going to get his wish too, as Liverpool revealed with several posts on their official X (formerly Twitter) account that Salah is back in full team training.

The timing is great for the Reds, with Liverpool just 12 days away from a Carabao Cup final with Chelsea, which Salah will be incredibly eager to get fully fit in time for.

With Liverpool set to miss Szoboszlai and Trent for an unknown period of time, both due to injury, their right-hand side is going to be a lot weaker than Klopp would like it to be. The return of Mohamed Salah is rather welcomed.

Liverpool have some top forwards on their roster, and despite how well they’ve done in the Egyptian’s absence, no manager in the world is going to say no to have one of the world’s best players back in his side.

Odds on Liverpool to win the Premier League

As noted, at the time of writing, Liverpool are the leaders of the Premier League. With a game against Man City at Anfield on March 10 still to be played, the Reds winning the title is technically in their own hands, which will be music to Klopp’s ears.

Liverpool are currently 5/2 to win the Premier League, priced with Ladbrokes as the second-favourites to win the title for the second time in their history come May 2024.

They aren’t the favourites though, as noted, with that honour going to reigning champions Man City. Guardiola’s side are 8/13 to become the first team in Premier League history to win the competition four years on the trot.

Liverpool might not end the season with just the Premier League title though, with Klopp eyeing up a historic quad in what will be his last season with the European giants, which you can see all the odds for.
