Much-changed Manchester clubs can’t be split ahead of summer

It’s all change in Manchester, and the uncertainty surrounding the last two winners of the Premier League title means that the pair can’t be separated in the betting for glory in 2013/14.

Ladbrokes have both Manchester United and Manchester City priced at 15/8 to win the league next season, with the similarity in prices surely reflective of the many questions that will now be asked of both clubs.

Whilst the initial reaction to Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement and the hiring of David Moyes as United boss saw City installed as title favourites, the subsequent sacking of Roberto Mancini and likely appointment of Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad Stadium saw the balance levelled again.

Regardless of Pellegrini’s arrival, the spotlight will be firmly on Moyes in the summer as he becomes United’s first new boss since Ferguson breezed through the Old Trafford doors in November 1986.

With rumours suggesting that Moyes – who started work at United’s Carrington training ground on Monday – will look to bring in players from his former club Everton such as Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini, the status of title favourites is sure to change even more between now and the big kick-off on August 17th.

Similarly at City, where Chilean Pellegrini is sure to bring in his own men amidst rumours that players such as Carlos Tevez will be on the way out, there isn’t much that can be taken for granted ahead of the club’s challenge for a second title in three years.

One thing that is for certain though is that the odds reflect what many will see as another all-Manchester challenge for glory, with Chelsea priced at 11/4 to win the league next season, whilst Arsenal are 16/1, Tottenham 20/1 and Liverpool 25/1.
