Euro 2024: England squad, starting XI and tournament odds

Thomas Tuchel is in 'advanced negotiations' with the FA and is now in 'pole position' to become England's next manager after Gareth Southgate resigned from the role following Euro 2024.

After being played off the park by 48th in the world, Greece, the bookies now make Lee Carsley 3/1 to keep hold of the England job, having been as short as 1/5 before kick-off on Thursday night.

Elsewhere, Thomas Tuchel is now just 1/4 to take over before the start of England's World Cup qualifying campaign, with reports stating that the German is in 'advanced negotiations' with the FA to take over as the Three Lions' next manager.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Lee Carsley once looked a shoo-in for the England job, but Thursday's defeat - and performance - has worried plenty, and the odds now suggest the FA may soon be turning their attention to Thomas Tuchel."

Below are the odds for several candidates to become England's next manager by the start of World Cup 2026 qualification, which kicks off next year.

The dream would be Pep Guardiola, whose contract with Man City expires in 2025, but the latest chatter online suggests that the ex-Barcelona manager could be set to extend his deal by a year and remain at the Etihad.

The bet is also for the new England manager to be in place by the start of World Cup qualifying, which kicks off in March 2025. Even if Guardiola is appointed as England boss, it'd be unlikely to be official until the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season, with a mid-campaign exit almost definitely off the table.

It seems like Thomas Tuchel is now the favourite for the job, which is interesting considering the historic rivalry between the German and English national teams.

The situation with Tuchel could get even more interesting too, with Erik ten Hag the favourite to be the first Premier League manager to get sacked this season, and the ex-Chelsea boss also in the running for that job.

Ladbrokes has looked at how England could line-up under Tuchel, with two current Chelsea players and two players not playing in England picked in our suggested XI.
