Next Man Utd manager odds: Ten Hag and Pochettino lead the way
Published:Leading contenders in the next Man Utd manager odds
It is proving to be another frustrating season at Old Trafford and we are taking a look at the next Man Utd manager odds to see who could be in charge at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.
With United struggling for a top-four finish and with little hope of winning any silverware this season, here are the leading contenders to be in the dugout in August.
Erik ten Hag
The Ajax coach is one of the 6/4 joint-favourites in the next Man Utd manager odds and there has been plenty of speculation that he could make the move to England at the end of the season.
One newspaper recently reported that the Dutchman is studying English in a bid to be more fluent when he joins United and Ten Hag has won plenty of admirers for the style of football Ajax produce.
The Eredivisie leaders are averaging around three goals a game in the league and have reached the last 16 in the Champions League but a move to the Premier League would be a big step up and the United hierarchy may prefer a more experienced manager to oversee a much-needed overhaul.
Mauricio Pochettino
Pochettino has long since been touted as Manchester United’s number one target and a move for the former Tottenham boss, who is also 6/4, would come as little surprise.
The big question is whether Pochettino could be persuaded to leave PSG but that may not be an issue soon, with reports that he is facing the sack after the French side’s Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid.
Being knocked out in the round of 16 was a major blow for an expensive squad featuring the likes of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, and some United fans are now questioning whether he is the right man for the job.
PSG look a collection of individual talent rather than a well-functioning team, and that is a problem all too familiar at United this season.
Pochettino has plenty of experience in English football though, having done well at Southampton and more famously Tottenham, who finished as Premier League runners-up under the Argentinian and also reached the 2019 Champions League final.
Ralf Rangnick
Rangnick was named as interim manager following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a view to then moving into a consultancy role.
That may still be the plan but if Rangnick had been an instant success there would have been obvious calls for him to remain in charge.
He has made little impact though and while United have done reasonably well in the Champions League, they have struggled for consistency in the Premier League and were knocked out of the FA Cup at the hands of Middlesbrough.
Rangnick has struggled to implement his preferred style of play on a group of players that look ill suited to his high-energy tactics and the German has drifted to 8/1 in the next Man Utd manager odds, but he does at least have first-hand knowledge of the problems at the club.
Antonio Conte
Conte returned to the Premier League earlier this season when he was named Tottenham manager but has not been afraid to express his frustration at times, with the job seemingly bigger than he expected.
Not all has gone to plan since his arrival but Spurs currently have a realistic chance of finishing above United in the table.
Conte is a proven winner, having won the Premier League and FA Cup with Chelsea while he has also guided both Juventus and Inter Milan to the Serie A title.
If he was out of contract he would be an obvious candidate to be the next Manchester United manager but his job at Tottenham means he is also priced at 8/1.
Brendan Rodgers
Rodgers is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the English game but not everything has gone to plan for Leicester this season.
The Foxes only just missed out on the Champions League last season when they were pipped to fourth place on the last day of the campaign but this time around they are languishing in the bottom half of the table.
That will not help his chances of landing a bigger job at Old Trafford, although last season’s FA Cup success should not be forgotten and Rodgers is 12/1 in the next Man Utd manager betting.
