West Brom vacancy: Keane still in the running but Dyche big favourite for Baggies

Keane fourth favourite in next West Brom manager odds

Roy Keane is among the frontrunners to take over from Steve Bruce at West Brom.

Initially Keane was chalked up as the 3/1 favourite, but his odds have eased out to 8/1. Sean Dyche has taken over as evens favourite, with Chris Wilder and Carlos Corberan both 7/1.

Wigan manager Leam Richardson is fourth in the betting at 8/1.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Roy Keane was initially priced as favourite to replace Steve Bruce at West Brom after he set tongues wagging by showing up to the team’s match against Preston last Wednesday. Although, Sean Dyche has since replaced him at the head of the market, there is no clear-cut favourite, suggesting he is still very much in contention.”

Here are the contenders for the job at The Hawthorns and their next West Brom manager odds.

Sean Dyche

Dyche has been out of work since being sacked by Burnley in April in his 10th season at Turf Moor.

The gruff former Watford manager led the Clarets to the Premier League in 2014 and kept them in the top flight for eight seasons despite having very little cash to bolster his thin squad.

However, his reign ended after a 2-0 defeat by Norwich which left them four points clear of safety and cost him his job.

Next West Brom manager odds: 1/1

Carlos Corberan

Corberan remains surprisingly out of work despite leading Huddersfield to the Championship play-off final last season.

The Terriers were one of the pre-season favourites for relegation, but the Spaniard worked miracles and was just 90 minutes away from becoming a Premier League manager.

Corberan resigned during the close season after two years in charge, citing the club’s lack of ambition as one of the reasons he left Town, and he went on to join Olympiacos, but was sacked by the Greek giants in September having won just two of his 13 games in charge in all competitions.

Next West Brom manager odds: 7/1

Chris Wilder

Wilder made his name with a successful five-year spell as Sheffield United manager between 2016-21 during which he took the club to the Premier League.

The Blades were a breath of fresh air in their first season in the top flight in 13 years during which Wilder deployed overlapping centre-backs to bamboozle opposing defences.

Wilder was eventually sacked in March 2021 after his relationship with the club’s owner broke down and he was shown the door by Middlesbrough at the start of October after a poor start to the Championship season.

Next West Brom manager odds: 7/1

Leam Richardson

Leeds-born Richardson has worked wonders at Wigan, who were promoted to the second tier as League One champions last season on a limited budget.

Latics have the best away record in the Championship but their struggles at home mean they are 16th in the table.

Next West Brom manager odds: 8/1

Roy Keane

The feisty former Manchester United captain last managed a club 11 years ago when he spent a couple of seasons at Ipswich, although he has been assistant at the Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest since then.

Tongues started to wag when he was spotted in the crowd at Deepdale where Preston’s early goal sealed a 1-0 victory against the Baggies.

However, in his role as a pundit on Sky’s Monday Night Football, the Irishman described speculation that he was about to be appointed West Brom boss as “absolute rubbish”.

Next West Brom manager odds: 8/1

Best of the rest

Former Bournemouth manager Scott Parker, sacked by the Premier League club at the end of August, has entered the running at 10/1.

Rob Edwards took over at Watford in May but four months later became the latest casualty of club owner Giampaolo Pozzo. Edwards guided Forest Green to League One last season and his stock remains high despite his unsuccessful spell at Vicarage Road and he is 14/1 to land the Baggies job.

Ian Evatt is enjoying an excellent stint as Bolton manager and is 16/1, the same odds as Liam Rosenior who acted as interim Derby boss when Wayne Rooney went stateside until he was replaced by Paul Warne.

Coventry’s Mark Robins and former Derby, Swansea and Reading boss Paul Clement, who last managed Cercle Brugge in Belgium, are also 16/1.
