No surprises as Vettel closes in on another title in India

Sebastian Vettel is 1/3 favourite to win the Indian Grand Prix, having dominated in practice and qualifying.

The 26-year-old set a new track record at the Buddh International Circuit to claim pole position by seven tenths of a second from Nico Rosberg – a mammoth margin epitomising his current stranglehold on the sport.

Nobody has got close to Vettel in the previous two runnings of the Indian event, with the Red Bull star romping to victory on both occasions and leading every single lap in the process.

If that wasn’t enough, Vettel is also seeking a sixth win on the trot and is fully aware that any top five result for him would clinch a fourth-successive world championship.

The man best placed to launch a race winning challenge to Vettel is his Red Bull stablemate Mark Webber, priced at 5/2.

Webber starts fourth on the grid but took a tactical decision to use the slower medium compound tyre in qualifying, and that could pay dividends in the race, with those around him likely to struggle early on with soft tyres.

The Red Bull cars have been mightily superior throughout the Indian Grand Prix weekend, and none of their rivals are any shorter than 25/1 to win the race.

In the Betting Without Vettel market, Webber is handily priced at 1/2, whilst many could find solace in Fernando Alonso at 8/1, who has finished second to Vettel in three of the last five races.

The Spaniard is at the peak of his career and although he will start from eighth on the grid, is likely to sore through the order after also taking the medium tyre in qualifying.

Kimi Raikkonen is also 8/1 in this market, and like Alonso, the Finn is a master at climbing through the field on race day.

Starting from sixth should give the 2007 world champion a solid platform to claim another podium position, having finished second six times this season already.
