Parker and Wilder lead Bellew bout market…but Haye’s in there
Published:
Liverpudlian Tony Bellew laughed off pre-fight odds of 4/1 to defeat former Heavyweight world champion David Haye at the O2 Arena after a gruelling and engrossing 11 rounds in which the underdog broke his hand.
And on the back of that surprise triumph, all eyes are on who the 34-year-old will face next.
Our traders make New Zealander and current WBO Heavyweight title holder Joseph Parker the 3/1 favourite for that honour. And If that fight does come next, it’s the Englishman who is narrow favourite, with 4/5 for Bellew to deliver the first defeat of Parker’s career.
The 6’7” powerhouse that is Deontay Wilder is second-favourite at 5/1 to get in the ring with Haye’s conqueror, though that’s one bout our odds-compilers wouldn’t fancy ‘Bomber’ to win, with 3/1 for him to defeat the man from Alabama. But remember, he’s already defied bigger odds this week…
Dillian Whyte is next up at 6s to face the veteran Brit, with Cuban counterpunching specialist Luis Ortiz an 8/1 shot.
However, it’s the 10/1 shot – a certain Mr. Haye – which remains the option likely to most excite the boxing world. The Hayemaker is 2/5 to triumph, with Bellew at 2-1, just half the price he was for victory before last night’s contest.
