Phil Taylor well priced for one more big win before calling it a day
Published:
He shook the world of sport last week when he announced that this would be his last year on the PDC circuit. But our traders are expecting Phil Taylor to go out with a bang before calling time on his tungsten.
And as a result, they’re offering odds of 2/1 for Taylor to win another Premier League, World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts or World Championship.
And who’d back against that happening?
It’s fair to say plenty of eyebrows were raised when The Power made his announcement last week, especially given that the 16-time world champ is still sixth in the Order of Merit.
Granted, he’s found it hard in recent years to consistently pull off title-winning performances, but the 56-year-old is by no means past it – a quick look at his form last year will tell you that…
Following his exit in the Last 16 of the 2016 World Darts Championship, Taylor went on to reach six quarter finals, six semi finals, three finals and claim five titles – including the Premier League, the Sydney Masters and the Champions League.
Losing 11-9 to Gary Anderson in this year’s Masters semi final is nothing to be ashamed of, so his recent form suggests there could well be some value in that 2/1.
It’s worth noting that of the five tournaments covered in this bet, Taylor has won them 54 times combined.
We are including next year’s World Championship, although we’re not sure whether or not Taylor will be competing, given that it runs into 2018 and he said he’d retire this year.
But with 5/1 on offer for him NOT to be there, our traders seem fairly convinced he’s got at least one more Ally Pally appearance in him.
The Premier League Darts gets underway tonight, and we’re offering 8/11 for Taylor to beat Dave Chisnall.
