Poor finishing letting down Millwall’s Championship assault
Published:Millwall may be working on their finishing over the two-week international break as manager Kenny Jackett feels that it was a poorness in this department which cost them victory in their last Championship outing.
Jackett watched his team hit the target on numerous occasions against a Burnley side who had to play with ten men for 83 minutes, but they could only manage a 1-1 draw.
This has left them in the tightly-congested Championship mid-table, where a run of victories will move them into the play-off places, while a few defeats could see them fall into the relegation zone.
It will be especially important in the Championship this season for teams to win games in which they are in the ascendancy for long periods and Jackett knows the importance of his players becoming more clinical in front of goal.
He said: “We had a number of chances and that’s something we have to look at.
“The only criticism I can have against my players was their finishing. Sometimes you have to earn your luck but there was a winning performance there.”
Millwall are currently 50/1 to win the Championship and already have 13 points to make up on QPR, who have raced into a six-point lead at the top of the table.
Steve Morison has proven Millwall’s biggest threat in attack with four Championship goals this season, while he has struck another two in the Carling Cup.
Morison is 16/1 to finish the campaign as the top scorer in the Championship and he will get the chance to add to his tally when Millwall travel to Crystal Palade during the next round of fixtures, which commence on October 16th.
