Chelsea, Stamford Bridge, Caicedo transfer

Now the 2024/25 Premier League season is mid-way through, Ladbrokes takes you through Chelsea's squad, their chances of winning the title next year and what their starting XI has been.

It's been another season of major changes at Stamford Bridge, both in terms of signings and behind the scenes, with ex-Leicester City boss and Man City assistant Enzo Maresca replacing Mauricio Pochettino, who ended the season on a positive note, as Chelsea boss.

Like Man United, Chelsea's squad has gone through quite the makeover this summer, and with a new manager at the helm, Todd Boehly will be hoping to bring his side back into the Champions League spots next season, after missing out in each of the last two.

So, with that in mind, Ladbrokes takes you through Chelsea's squad for the current Premier League season, what their starting XI has been, and their odds of winning the title once again.

Chelsea's 2024/25 squad

Below are the players in Chelsea's first team squad for next season. Due to the sheer number of signings Boehly has made since taking over, the roster is quite inflated.

  • Robert Sanchez, Marcus Bettinelli, Filip Jorgensen, Lucas Bergstrom
  • Axel Disasi, Marc Cucurella, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, Levi Colwill, Ben Chilwell, Reece James, Malo Gusto, Wesley Fofana, Renato Veiga, Josh Acheampong
  • Enzo Fernandez, Carney Chukwuemeka, Cole Palmer, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Moises Caicedo, Cesare Casadei, Omari Kellyman, Romeo Lavia
  • Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Deivid Washington, Marc Guiu, David Datro Fofana, Angelo, Pedro Neto, Joao Felix, Jadon Sancho

Chelsea 2024 transfers

As noted, Chelsea have made some big signings this summer transfer window, with Maresca bringing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall with him to London from Leicester to bolster out the midfield.

Tosin Adarabioyo also joined as a smart signing as a free agent from London rivals Fulham, with the ex-Man City defender able to step into the backline when called upon. Pedro Neto has also joined as the club's marquee signing, leaving Wolves for Stamford Bridge in August.

Despite reports at the beginning of the summer suggesting Chelsea were happy with Robert Sanchez as their number one goalkeeper, the Blues still dipped into the market to buy another number one, securing the signature of Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.

Returning to the club is Joao Felix, who was on loan at Stamford Bridge in 2023, and has now completed a permanent deal to Chelsea from Atletico Madrid. The deal was separate, but obviously linked to the move that saw Conor Gallagher move to the Spanish capital.

Jadon Sancho has also signed, moving on an initial loan deal on Transfer Deadline Day from rivals Manchester United.

The rest of Chelsea's signings, as we've seen over the last few years, have been youth projects, such as Caleb Miley joining from Atalanta, Marc Guiu from Barcelona, Aaron Anselmino from Argentina, Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa for close to £20m and Renato Veiga from Basel in Switzerland.

Stamford Bridge, Chelsea

As for outgoings, Thiago Silva left the club as a free agent to return home to Fluminese in Brazil, talented youngsters Ian Maatsen and Omari Hutchinson moved to Aston Villa and Ipswich respectively, whilst Michael Golding joined Leicester as part of Dewsbury-Hall's move to sign for Chelsea and Malang Sarr was released as a free agent.

Hakim Ziyech also joined Galatasary on a permanent basis, having spent last season on loan at the Turkish side. Chinonso Chibueze joined Stole whilst Charlie Webster, Alfie Gilchrist, Andrey Santos and Jamie Cumming moved to Burton, Sheffield United, Strasbourg and Oxford respectively.

Teddy Sharman-Lowe then moved on loan to Doncaster, whilst Aaron Anselmino, who joined from Boca Juniors, will stay at the club for the remainder of the campaign. Bashir Humphreys has left for Burnley for the season on loan, but that's expected to become permanent in 2025.

Leaving Chelsea but staying in the Premier League is Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has left Stamford Bridge for the season to replace and compete with Neto as Bournemouth's number one goalkeeper.

The same can be said for Raheem Sterling, Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broja, who left on loan deals to Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Everton respectively.

Chelsea dealt a lot with Strasbourg this summer, with Diego Moreira leaving on a permanent deal and both Djordje Petrovic and Wiley joining the French club on loan. Lesley Ugochukwu, on the other hand, has joined Southampton for the season. Leo Castledine has also left on loan, and will be playing for Shrewsbury for the forthcoming season.

Two of Chelsea's players have left for Italy too, with Romelu Lukaku joining Antonio Conte's Napoli side, and Tino Anjorin leaving for Empoli, both on permanent deals.

Chelsea's 2024/25 starting XI

As we covered in our breakdown of Liverpool's 2024/25 squad and odds, it's hard to predict a starting XI when a new manager is coming in.

Yes, we know the talent and ability of the players in the squad, and we now how the new manager lined up at his old club, but Maresca will have his own opinions on how the squad should look, valuing certain players higher than others.

With that in mind, Sanchez has started as Chelsea's number one, but many of the club's fans seem unconvinced by the ex-Brighton keeper.

Dorde Petrovic was very good for Chelsea at the end of the season, but is somewhat limited in possession, something that Maresca priortises for his goalkeepers, which is why he's left on loan.

In the backline it's been Malo Gusto or Reece James at right-back, Levi Colwill at centre-back with Wesley Fofana, who is returning from another nasty injury, and Marc Curuella, who returns to Chelsea as a Euro 2024 winner with Spain.

Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez have played in midfield, but Romeo Lavia has continued to show why so many top clubs were after him when he's played in the middle of the park.

Cole Palmer has lined up as an attacking midfielder, with Dewsbury-Hall able to come in as and when needed.

As for the front three, Neto or Noni Madueke have played off the right, with Jadon Sancho and Neto trading minutes off the left, with Joao Felix also able to play there. As for the number nine, that role has exclusively been Nicolas Jackson's this season, and he's done very well with that responsibility.

Chelsea's Premier League odds

Liverpool are the favourites to win next year's Premier League, aiming to win the title for the first time since 2020, when Jurgen Klopp was manager.

Behind Liverpool are Chelsea, with the bookies viewing them as the fiftj favourites to win the 2024/25 Premier League, also behind Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Man City.

Chelsea are also viewed as less likely than City to be playing Championship football in 2025/26, who are at 12/1.

A lot of that has to do with the 115 charges City are dealing with right now, with a potential points deduction on the way, rather than because of anything Guardiola's side are going to produce on the pitch over the next year.
