Premier League Darts: Bank on drama as darts goes Dutch

The Premier League Darts circus heads into unchartered waters tonight as Rotterdam plays host for the first time, and who do we think the partisan Netherlands crowd might be supporting?
Expect to see thousands of Michael van Gerwen masks and replica green shirts tonight (tickets sold out minutes after going on sale), as Mighty Mike looks to end the regular season on a high in front of his home crowd.
It’s set up to be an absolute corker, because guess who gets to play the villain tonight?
Yup. Mr Taylor.
But before the night reaches an almighty crescendo, there’s still one play-off place up for grabs.
Adrian Lewis’ defeat to Taylor last time out, coupled with Peter Wright’s win over James Wade ensured Snakebite still had a chance of landing a top-four spot.
The Scot must beat the already-eliminated Raymond van Barneveld, and then hope Jackpot loses to Gary Anderson.
Wright is evens favourite, but Barney – the pioneer of the Netherlands’ darting revolution don’t forget – can’t be discounted to end Snakebite’s hopes at 7/4.
Having won the last three meetings however, it’s the Scot who’ll be understandably confident, and should he win, the pressure is all on Lewis.
Both two-time world champions, Lewis has lost three of his last four versus Anderson, who is already through, and Jackpot can be backed at 5/2, with the Flying Scotsman 8/11 favourite.
A draw for Wright might not be good enough either, providing Lewis picks up at least three legs.
Opening the night’s action is Robert Thornton and James Wade, with neither having anything to play for except some pride.
The Thorn is 3/1 to bow out victoriously, but the Machine – who has won five of the last six meetings – can be backed at 4/7.
But tonight’s crème de la crème (What’s the Dutch for that?) is undoubtedly Mighty Mike versus the Power.
Do they get along? Not really. Do they hate losing? Yep. Is Van Gerwen going to be ridiculously pumped up to win at home? Yep. Would Taylor love to play the bad guy and ruin the Dutch dream? You bet.
Something has to give, unless you fancy a repeat of their 6-6 draw last time out… which is 4/1.
