Old Trafford, Manchester United

Now the 2024/25 Premier League season is mid-way through, Ladbrokes takes you through Man United's squad, their chances of getting back into the Champions League and their starting XI for the season.

Last season was a rather disappointing one for Man United in terms of their on-pitch performances, but things ended well with a surprising 2-1 win over arch rivals Man City in the final of the 2024 FA Cup.

This summer was seen to have been a successful for the club as well, with several exciting signings in what has been the first transfer window since INEOS took over sporting control, something that fans had been clamouring for for years.

However, just nine games in, and the club sacked Erik ten Hag, with Ruben Amorim taking over and becoming the club's next manager from November 11.

Ladbrokes takes you through Man United's squad for the current Premier League season, wha their starting line-up has looked like, and their odds of finishing inside the top six.

Man United's 2024/25 squad

Below are the players in Man United's first team squad for next season, which has changed somewhat from last campaign, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.

  • Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Andre Onana
  • Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Leny Yoro, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Matthijs de Ligt, Jonny Evans, Noussair Mazraoui
  • Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, Toby Collyer, Manuel Ugarte
  • Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Joshua Zirkzee

Man United 2024 transfers

As noted, Man United have made some exciting transfers this summer, thanks to INEOS, with talented Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee coming into the squad from Bologna after an impressive season in Italy.

Zirkzee is a Roberto Firmino-esque striker whose talents are more on display with his hold-up play and ability to make space and create chances for others, rather than with his ruthlessness in front of goal.

Leny Yoro is a young centre-half who United beat the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool and PSG to sign this summer from Lille. Out of contract next summer, all involved thought the French defender was heading to Madrid, but the 18-year-old was convinced by Man United's proposal and joined the club.

Yoro isn't the only centre-half that Man United have signed, with ex-Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt joining from Bayern Munich alongside Noussair Mazraoui, who has also left Germany for Old Trafford.

Signing with an eye for the future is Sekou Kone from Guidars FC, while Man United hope that fellow new signing Manuel Ugarte can be important for the club now and for many years to come after completing his move from PSG.

Raphael Varane, Shola Shoretire and Anthony Martial both left the club following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season at the expiration of their contracts, with rumours also linking Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Casemiro with exits away from the club.

Mazraoui has been brought in to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with the former Crystal Palace right-back returning to London to play for West Ham following a permanent deal.

Ugarte's move was made possible following the exit of Scott McTominay to Napoli on a permanent deal, with Jadon Sancho also leaving the club just weeks after making up with former manager Ten Hag, joining Chelsea on a loan deal.

Man United's 2024/25 starting XI

It's worth noting that United made the decision to sack Ten Hag after the club's 2-1 defeat to West Ham on October 27. Ruben has come in as United's next manager and he's still figuring out what his ideal starting XI is.

With Amorim coming in, Andre Onana is expected to start in goal, with Adam Diallo or Diogo Dalot at right wing-back. The centre-halves are expected to be Lisandro Martinez and De Ligt, with Maguire and Yoro waiting in the wings. Luke Shaw would be playing at left wing-back when he's fit, but that's a rarity, with Dalot having to cover there more than both he and the club would probably have wanted.

The midfield will see Kobbie Mainoo likely start after a top campaign with England at Euro 2024, with Ugarte partnering him.

The front-three will see Marcus Rashford on the left, with Bruno Fernandes on the right, but with the ability to drift into midfield as and when needed.

As for the striker position, that's for young guns Rasmus Hojlund and Zirkzee to fight over, with Amorim likely happy to have two hungry options to chose from as his starting nine.

Man United's Premier League odds

Despite beating Man City in the FA Cup final and having an impressive summer window, Man United have almost no chance of winning the Premier League this season.

Liverpool are the favourites to win the title this year, ahead of Arsenal, historic rivals Man City and Nottingham Forest.

Interestingly though, Man United have been regarded by the bookies as LESS LIKELY to get relegated from the Premier League next season than Man City, who are 12/1 to go down.

However, that's almost definitely down to the potential points deduction that could hit City following the outcome to their 115 charges, rather than anything they could do on the pitch over the course of the 38 games.

Man United's Premier League 2024/25 fixtures

Man United kicked off their 2024/25 campaign against Fulham. On paper, the game saw the Red Devils pick up all three points, an improvement after losing to Marco Silva's side at home last season.

The positivity didn't last too long for Man United unfortunately, as in their next game they lost 2-1 to Brighton, with Joao Pedro scoring a goal in added time to leave the Red Devils empty handed.

Their first big game of the season saw them host Liverpool at Old Trafford on September 1, the first time that Arne Slot will have travelled to one of world footballs most iconic stadiums, with the Red Devils losing 3-0 in humiliating fashion.

That set up a bit of a trend for United, as in a home fixture against Spurs on September 29, Fernandes and co slumped to another 3-0 loss to a top six rival, with that game having come a few weeks before United's 2-1 loss to West Ham sack Ten Hag lose his job.

The decision to sack ETH took place on October 28, less than a week before Chelsea travelled to Old Trafford on November 2, with interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy leading his side to a 1-1 draw.

Man United's first challenging away fixture (on paper at least) took place on December 4 when the Red Devils travel to London to face Arsenal, losing 2-0. That came before an away game against Man City on December 14, which ended in a huge 2-1 win.

The reverse fixture against Liverpool at Anfield was Man United's first domestic league game of 2025, taking place on January 5. United were the better team for the majority, and can feel somewhat hard-done-by to have only secured a 2-2 draw.

United then lost 1-0 to Spurs in London on February 15, before facing another North London club in the form of Arsenal on March 9, this time in Manchester, with that game ending in a 1-1 draw.

April 5 sees the second Manchester Derby of the season against Man City, this time at Old Trafford, whilst a tricky away trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in their penultimate game of the season takes place on May 18.

Man United's final home game of the season takes place on May 25, where they'll be hosting Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
