Premier League 24/25 Team of the Season
Published:
We're now approaching the end of the 24/25 season, so it’s only right that Ladbrokes presents its Premier League Team of the Season.
Liverpool won the Premier League on April 27, having picked up 82 points from their opening 35 games, and three of their players make it into our Team of the Season so far, including the ever-reliable Virgil van Dijk.
The rest of the XI is made up of players from Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Chelsea, Wolves, Bournemouth, Brentford and Aston Villa, the latter of whom have won 17 of their 35 games and find themselves in seventh place.
Premier League 24/25 Team of the Season so far
Honourable mentions
Before we get into our XI, we want to take a moment to shine a light on a few of the notable omissions. The following players have been great this season so far, and that deserves to be acknowledged, but unfortunately just miss out on our Team of the Season so far.
Chris Wood, Amad Diallo, Heung min-Son and Bruno Fernandes have been amongst some of the division's best performers so far according to Sofa Score's metrics, but none of the four have done enough to make it into the Team of the Season so far in our view.
Also in the running according to Sofa Score are Phil Foden and Declan Rice, as well as Man City defender Josko Gvardiol, who has shone for Pep Guardiola's side in what has actually been a poor campaign for the dethroned champions.
GK - David Raya - Arsenal
Starting off our team is David Raya of Arsenal, with his only competition being Mats Selz of Nottingham Forest.
Raya was fantastic last season, and this season he's shown himself to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world, never mind just the Premier League. We were close to tipping it to Selz on this one, given how he's kept Forest in games at points, but Raya has simply been too good to ignore.
Arsenal have conceded the fewest goals in the league so far, but and they'd have let in a load more if they didn't have Raya in between the sticks.
LB - MIlos Kerkez - Bournemouth
We kick off our defence with Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez, a man who could actually be leaving the Cherries this summer.
Priced at around £45m, Kerkez has shone for Bournemouth this season, establishing himself as potentially the country's most exciting left-back talent.
Whether he's defending the flank or bombing up the wing and starting attacks, Kerkez has been integral to Bournemouth's fight for European football, more than earning his spot in our Team of the Season.
CB - Virgil van Dijk - Liverpool
This may be the best version of Virgil van Dijk we've ever seen, and considering he came second in the Ballon d'Or in 2019 to Lionel Messi, that's saying something.
Liverpool have conceded the second fewest goals in the league this season, and Van Dijk has been a major part of that. However, the Dutchman hasn't just stood out for his defensive contributions, but for his offensively too, as VVD has been stellar on the ball for Liverpool this season, starting attacks with fantastic balls into the midfield or even onto the feet of one of the attackers.
He's also popped up with a few big goals, including one against West Ham in April when Liverpool were in the hunt to become Premier League champions, which they later achieved.
So, considering how dominant Liverpool have been, it's hard to argue with anyone who puts Van Dijk into their Team of the Season so far, just as we have.
CB – Nikola Milenković - Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest looked certain to qualify for the Champions League a few weeks ago, but poor results in recent games have seen their odds of finishing inside the top five diminish somewhat.
But don't let that takeaway from how incredible Forest have been this campaign, going from being close to relegation last year to battling it out with England's biggest clubs for a spot in Europe's biggest club competition next season.
Few thought too much of Forest signing Milenković last season, but he's arguably been the Premier League's most impressive centre-back, shining alongside Murillo as a fantastic box defender and threat in both boxes.
RB - Moises Caicedo - Chelsea
While a midfielder by trade, Moises Caicedo has been so important for Enzo Maresca's side in the league so far this season that we're putting him at right-back, a position he's played a fair few times
Caicedo has been a controller in the middle of the field for Chelsea, which was desperately needed after the former Brighton man struggled in his first season following his move to Stamford Bridge.
The young midfielder has shown why several of Europe's top clubs tried to sign him for over £100m just a year ago, and if he continues with that form, there's no reason won't be recognised as one of the best in the world in his position
CM - Youri Tielemans - Aston Villa
Unai Emery brought Youri Tielemans to Aston Villa last summer, but the Belgian struggled in his first season under the Spanish manager.
However, the midfielder has now started every single game for Villa in his second season with the club, showing why Unai was so keen to bring him to the club, on a free transfer no less, in 2023.
Tielemans is a controller from deep, allowing Villa's exciting attacking talent to flourish. He also appears to have worked on his fitness too, something many fans criticised him for during his time with Leicester and in his first Villa season.
CM - Ryan Gravenberch - Liverpool
Ryan Gravenberch is our second Liverpool player to feature in the Team of the Season (he won't be the last), and he's probably the most deserving.
The Dutchman didn't play much under Jurgen Klopp last season, but Slot has trusted him to play the six role in his new-look midfield, and he's shone beyond belief.
Comfortable on the ball and aggressive in the tackle, Gravenberch has shown why he's been so highly-rated by fans and pundits across the world. Liverpool have won the league, and they're counting their lucky stars that Gravenberch has risen to the occasion and starred as their holding midfielder.
CAM - Bryan Mbuemo - Brentford
He may not play as a ten for Brentford, but Bryan Mbuemo has simply been too good to not include in our Team of the Season so far, so our writers have snuck him in here.
Many fans worried for Brentford when Ivan Toney left the club in the summer, but Mbuemo has more than stepped up to become Thomas Frank's main attacker, scoring 18 goals and popping up with seven assists in his side's opening 35 games.
In fact, Mbuemo has been so impressive that Liverpool fans are tipping him as someone who could replace Mohamed Salah as their star right-winger eventually, so his spot in this Team of the Season is more than deserved.
LW – Matheus Cunha - Wolves
Taking up the other number ten spot in our Team of the Season so far, over the aforementioned Maddison, is Matheus Cunha of Wolves.
Cunha has been a bright spark in a Wolves side who, for the majority of the season, were fighting against relegation. The Brazilian was a major factor in the side managing to stay in the division too, popping up with vital goals and assists,
In fact, Cunha has been so good this season that he's been linked with a huge move away this summer, with a transfer to Manchester United deemed likely by the bookies.
RW - Mohamed Salah - Liverpool
Fans thought that the 23/24 campaign was going to be Salah's last in the Premier League for Liverpool, with a move to Saudi Arabia calling, but the summer transfer window came and went and the Egyptian king has remained in England's top-flight.
Salah has shown himself to be a key member of Slot's team, so much so that many Liverpool fans are hoping he's offered a brand new deal that keeps him at the club beyond this summer, and for many more years to come.
As for his numbers, Salah has scored 28 times in the league this season in his opening 35 games, and has also been at his very creative best, popping up with an additional 18 assists.
ST – Alexander Isak - Newcastle
Alexander Isak has scored 23 goals in his side's opening 35 Premier League games this season, one that has seen him linked with moves to many of Europe's top clubs.
Isak has everything a top Premier League striker needs. He's quick, strong, a clinical finisher and can link up play. It's no surprise that the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and even Champions League semi-finalists Barcelona want to sign him.
Erling Haaland has scored fewer goals than Isak this season, so it's not too surprising to see why we've given the Newcastle man the nod in our Team of the Season for this Premier League campaign.
