The 10 quickest goals in Premier League history

Every team hopes for the perfect start, and some really do achieve it. Here, Ladbrokes runs through the 10 quickest goals in Premier League history.
From Chris Sutton's strike in 1995 to Abdoulaye Doucouré's from February of this year, the list spans almost all of the Premier League's 33 years and features a host of household names - including the league's all-time top scorer, Alan Shearer.
Below, Ladbrokes visits every goal on this exclusive list, starting back in 2004 as Blackburn Rovers hosted Bolton Wanderers at Ewood Park.
The 10 fastest goals in Premier League history
10. Kevin Nolan vs Blackburn Rovers - 13.48 seconds (10 January 2004)
Back when Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers were established Premier League clubs, the Lancashire rivals faced off just over a week into the new year looking to claim bragging rights - and Bolton couldn't have got off to a better start.
A long ball forward was chased down by Kevin Davies as Blackburn attempted to shield it out of play, with the Bolton striker hooking it back to Kevin Nolan to fire into the roof of the net from a tight angle. The chaotic start was a sign of things to come, with Blackburn equalising just two minutes later and building up a 3-1 lead at half time, before a crazy second half saw Bolton run out 4-3 winners.
9. Chris Sutton vs Everton - 12.94 seconds (01 April 1995)
Over 30 years ago, Chris Sutton became the proud scorer of the Premier League's fastest ever goal when he found the net for Blackburn against Everton, combining beautifully with strike partner Alan Shearer to carve open the defence in under 13 seconds.
A Rovers defender fired a raking pass up to Sutton on the edge of the Everton box, which the striker nodded down to the ever-alert Shearer. Alan Shearer then headed the ball straight back into his teammate's path, before Sutton controlled the ball with his chest and fired low into the corner. The goal set Blackburn on their way, with the eventual Premier League champions winning 2-1.
8. Dwight Yorke vs Coventry City - 12.16 seconds (30 September 1995)
Chris Sutton's record didn't stand for very long, with Aston Villa's Dwight Yorke finding the net even quicker just a few months later, as the Trinidad and Tobago striker scored the fastest headed goal in Premier League history - a record that still stands today.
A clever ball from Villa's Mark Draper caught the Coventry defence cold, with Ian Taylor latching onto it down the right hand side. The midfielder cut the ball back onto his left foot and swung a cross onto the head of Yorke, who powered his effort past John Filan in the Coventry goal to kickstart a 3-0 victory for the Villans.
7. Mark Viduka vs Charlton Athletic - 11.90 seconds (17 March 2001)
The final goal on the list to be scored in over 11 seconds, Leeds United's Mark Viduka got his side off to the perfect start when they travelled to the Valley in 2001. The Aussie is still Leeds' top scorer in the Premier League with 59 goals, and was at the peak of his powers here.
When left back Ian Harte received the ball, Charlton would have felt safe, but once his long ball forward was won in the air by Alan Smith, the home defence was swiftly beaten. Viduka peeled away from his marker and latched onto the knock-down, before setting himself and curling a beauty into the far corner to put Leeds on their way to a 2-1 win.
6. Christian Eriksen vs Man United - 10.54 seconds (31 January 2018)
Christian Eriksen's strike against Manchester United is still the fastest goal ever scored at the 'new' Wembley, with the Dane putting Jose Mourinho's Red Devils to the sword in just over 10 seconds.
Jan Vertonghen's searching pass forward was headed down by Harry Kane, before Dele Alli beat Chris Smalling to the loose ball. Alli cleverly backheeled it into the path of Eriksen, who found himself in acres of space on the edge of the United six yard box, and the midfielder guided it past David De Gea with aplomb. Spurs went onto win 2-0, condemning United to a disappointing defeat.
5. Alan Shearer vs Man City - 10.52 seconds (18 January 2003)
With 260 PL goals to his name, it's no surprise to see that one of Alan Shearer's strikes came inside the first 11 seconds of a game, with his finish against Man City still holding the record as the quickest left-footed goal in Premier League history.
Straight from a Manchester City kick-off, the ball found itself at the feet of City goalkeeper Carlo Nash, and a slight stumble suddenly left the 'keeper panicking. His clearance ultimately cannoned straight into the onrushing Shearer, who tapped the ball into an empty net and gave his side the perfect start - without a single other Newcastle player even touching the ball.
4. Abdoulaye Doucouré vs Leicester - 10.18 seconds (01 February 2025)
The most recent addition to this list, Abdoulaye Doucouré's strike against Leicester was a huge goal for Everton at the time, as they faced a rival at the bottom of the Premier League - with the Foxes later being relegated to the Championship.
A long, direct ball from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford headed towards Beto on the edge of the Leicester box, and as the big striker occupied the Leicester defenders, Doucouré stole in. The midfielder read the bounce of the ball, took it forward on his chest and drilled it into the corner, scoring the fastest Everton goal in Premier League history and igniting an electric performance that saw the Toffees run out 4-0 winners.
3. Ledley King vs Bradford - 9.82 seconds (09 December 2000)
Christmas came early for Tottenham's Ledley King in 2000, as the defender scored after 9.82 seconds at Valley Parade and became the first player to score inside 10 seconds in the Premier League.
Following a common theme of this list, it was a long ball forward that started the attack, with the searching pass headed down by a Bradford City defender - but only as far as King. The Spurs man took the ball down on his chest and took a touch to set himself, before unleashing a shot from all of 25 yards. A wicked deflection helped the ball find the corner, giving King his first ever Premier League goal and kickstarting a blockbuster 3-3 draw.
2. Phillip Billing vs Arsenal - 9.11 seconds (04 March 2023)
When struggling Bournemouth travelled to league leaders Arsenal in 2023, most people would have expected a comfortable home win for Mikel Arteta's side - but Phillip Billing's strike inside 10 seconds made for a chaotic afternoon in north London.
A positive kick-off saw midfielder Joe Rothwell send the ball out to the dangerous Dango Outtaro, who proceeded to run straight at the Arsenal defence. The winger's ball in squirmed its way through to midfielder Phillip Billing, and the Dane made no mistake from six yards out. This became the second-quickest goal in PL history, and is also the only goal on this list to be scored by the losing team, with Arsenal bagging a 97th-minute winner.
1. Shane Long vs Watford - 7.69 seconds (23 April 2019)
More than a second quicker than the next-fastest goal, Shane Long's strike made history at Vicarage Road when he became the first player ever to score in the opening eight seconds of a Premier League match.
The Watford kick-off saw the ball find the feet of defender Craig Cathcart, and with Long immediately coming to close him down, the defender rushed his clearance. He fired the ball straight at Long, and the Southampton striker then pounced on the loose ball, taking one touch into the box before dinking over the onrushing 'keeper. The game stayed 1-0 until the very last minute, when Watford equalised to book-end a historic Premier League match.
