Scotland earn favouritism as Wales lose number eight

Published:

It’s a tournament that relies heavily on confidence and Wales find themselves lacking it after the loss to England stretched the win less run to eight games.

As a result Wales are now the 4/1 second-favourites to win the Wooden Spoon and Warren Gatland’s side face a clash with Scotland on Saturday that will define the season for Wales.

Having lost their eighth game, Wales have also lost their number eight as Andy Powell will miss the tie due to a shoulder injury and Gatland also faces a crisis on the wing as Morgan Stoddart has suffered a hand fracture.

Gatland’s job is under fire and a loss to Scotland on Saturday would leave Wales’ tie with Italy in Rome on February 26th as the Wooden Spoon clash – Italy are 2/5 to win the Wooden Spoon.

Scotland’s performance against France last Saturday has seen punters get behind them and they are the 4/6 favourites to beat Wales.

Confidence is low in the Welsh camp and Gatland’s side are 6/5 to beat Scotland on Saturday despite only losing once to Scotland in the last eight tests between the two.

But Scotland conquered the world champions at Murrayfield in the autumn, and after scoring just one try in five tests, Andy Robinson’s side racked up three against France.

It could turn out to be one of the games of the tournament with both sides trying to play expressive, running rugby, and no game since the inaugural Six Nations in 2000 has provided less than 30 points.

The last time Scotland beat Wales they won by 12 points and Scotland are 7/1 to win by between 11 and 15 points.

The handicap betting gives Wales a +3 start and Scotland are 1/1 to beat Wales with the points disadvantage.

A £25 stake on Wales winning the wooden spoon would return £125. New customers can sign up here for a free Six Nations bet worth £25.
