Sevilla stars for Europa League-hunting Liverpool to beware

Unai Emery puts his Sevilla squad through their paces

Winning a cup final of any kind is a tough task, but doing so in a European competition against the double defending champions is about as challenging as it can get for Liverpool this Wednesday night.

Not that Ladbrokes agree, with the bookmaker handing the Reds the favourites tag for their clash against Sevilla with odds of 11/8 to the Spaniards’ 2/1 to win in 90 minutes.

Despite those prices, the Andalusians should not be underestimated and have a number of dangerous players in their squad. Here are three of them:

Kevin Gameiro

The French striker arrived from Paris Saint-Germain two years ago and has enjoyed his best goal return for the club this season.

16 goals in La Liga and another seven in the Europa League make for impressive numbers for the 29-year-old, who netted in both legs of the semi-final against Shakhtar Donetsk to help Sevilla book their place in Basle.

Sebastian Cristoforo

If Liverpool are to deploy their high-pressing strategy and break Sevilla down, then the Uruguayan defensive midfielder should be the man they target.

The 22-year-old holding midfielder has been superb in his role shielding the back four this season, leading the Sevilla squad in tackles made per game. He also helps the side retain possession with the highest pass completion rate in the team.

Ever Banega

Alongside Cristoforo in the heart of the Spaniards’ midfield, and the perfect foil for the Uruguayan’s pitbull qualities, is the playmaker Banega.

The Argentine has registered more key passes than any other regular teammate on both the domestic and continental front this season and is without doubt the man that makes Los Rojiblancos tick when they are in possession.
