Sissoko’s Tottenham odds slashed as Deadline Day Newcastle exit looms
Published:
Tottenham’s odds on a Deadline Day move for Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle have been slashed this morning from 5/4 to 1/3.
The French midfielder has been the subject of attention from a host of Europe’s biggest clubs following a starring role for his country at the European Championships.
Spurs are believed to have won the race however, and it’s now odds-on Sissoko will be calling White Hart Lane home by the end of Deadline Day.
A deal of between £25m-30m is the widely-reported figure, and the move would bring a sigh of relief from Spurs fans who have seen a relatively quiet window for their club.
Tottenham are no strangers to a bit of Deadline Day business, having sold Dimitar Berbatov at the last in 2008, and welcomed Rafael van der Vaart to the club in similar fashion in 2010.
Mauricio Pochettino has welcomed just Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama this summer, with all of their title rivals spending significantly more on several players.
But the arrival of Sissoko would add some real weight to Spurs’ midfield, having chased the 27-year-old for much of the summer.
Despite the lack of transfer activity, Spurs have enjoyed a solid start to the new campaign, picking up five points from their opening trio of Premier League matches.
Pochettino will be hoping he can name Sissoko in his side when domestic duties resume after the international break.
Tottenham will return with a trip to Stoke, and the bookies make them 3/4 favourites for victory.
