Slade Power and Simenon the ones to watch on Nunthorpe day

The Nunthorpe Stakes is the big showpiece on day three of York’s Ebor meeting and the overnight rain at the course doesn’t appear good news for the likes of Sole Power and Shea Shea.

Slade Power is one that should relish the softer going more than most and is one for each-way punters, with Simenon looking the banker of the day in the Lonsdale Cup.

13:55 York – Kiama Bay @ 9/1

Kiama Bay has already won twice over this 1m4f trip in August and despite being lumbered with a 6lb penalty as he seeks his hat-trick, he looks capable of overcoming this obstacle.

His current official rating of 88 remains 11lb below his highest career mark and most interestingly, he was only beaten a head over course and distance from a 7lb higher mark in 2011, so should have no problems with the course.

Gospel Choir could prove the big threat as he looks to emulate Kirthill last year in carrying top weight to victory.

14:30 York – Simenon @ 13/8

Simenon is certainly the best horse in the race and the only worry is that over this slightly less than ideal 2m, there is a danger that the early pace will be on the pedestrian side.

Ahzeemah has some each-way appeal having finished in the first two on his last nine starts and the fact that he is the sole four-year-old in the race, which is an age group that has provided three of the last five winners.

15:05 York – City Style @ 7/1

Pavlosk is the clear favourite and is the only entry that has winning form on ground classified as good to soft, while a return to 1m is a positive.

However, she is worth opposing at the prices with City Style, who retains a decent reputation despite still awaiting a first British win and comes from a stable responsible for five of the last nine winners of this.

15:40 York – Slade Power @ 8/1

Four of the last five winners of the Nunthorpe have been drawn between stalls seven and 12 and so Slade Power’s position in stall nine could be ideal.

The overnight rain will not hinder his chances in the same manner as some of the leading market protagonists either, given he has winning form on soft.

Rosdhu Queen looks one to watch each-way if discovering some of her two-year-old form, especially as she is William Haggas’ sole runner on the card after two winners on day two of the meeting.
