Snakebite and MVG to stay unbeaten in Premier League Week 4

We’re already in Week 4 of the Premier League and Phil Taylor and Simon Whitlock have still failed to register a win between them as they clash in desperate circumstances in Glasgow. Below are previews of all five of the evening’s matches with the fivefold, if you choose to accept it, paying out over £1000 to a £10 stake.

Peter Wright to beat Adrian Lewis @ 7/4

Only reigning champion Michael van Gerwen can boast an unbeaten record like debutant Peter Wright and the advice is to stick with Snakebite to sustain his dream start to the competition against an unpredictable Adrian Lewis.

After routing Simon Whitlock and Phil Taylor in Weeks 1 and 2 respectively it was impossible to see anything else but a third straight win for the two-time World Champion but he was thrashed 7-2 by Wes Newton and reminded darts fans just how inconsistent he can be.

Wright on the other hand marched on at the expense of wounded six-time champion Taylor who despite getting crushed in his opening two matches in the league went into the game a heavy favourite.

That meant nothing on the night as the 43-year-old battled to a 7-4 success and everything points to the odds being beaten again.

At their best Lewis would beat Wright but no-one can steam into the Stoke thrower until he replicates a certain standard from week to week and so the advice is to keep with Wright to maintain his unbeaten start.

Robert Thornton to beat Wes Newton @ 10/11

Robert Thornton would have still been cursing himself coming into his Week 3 clash with Gary Anderson. The 46-year-old squandered winning chances in both of his opening matches, but if anything that spurred him on and he registered his first win in the league with a dominant display against his fellow Scot.

The Highland tussle turned into more of a procession with The Thorn hitting seven maximums en route to a 7-2 win and the advice is to stick with the gritty Ayrshire man to continue putting things right against Wes Newton.

Newton produced an excellent performance of his own in Belfast in taking down Adrian Lewis to back up his victory over Raymond van Barneveld the week before, however, there is an argument that both of those results were more to do with the standards of Newton’s opponents rather than his own level and that could be exposed in Glasgow.

Thornton also has a strong personal history against The Warrior, tasting defeat only five times in 16 meetings and he will feel right at home in front of his own fans.

Phil Taylor v Simon Whitlock – Draw @ 5/1

If someone had said at the beginning of this year’s Premier League that the Week 4 blockbuster clash between 2012 finalists Phil Taylor and Simon Whitlock would be a bonafide basement clash it would only have been fair to tie them up and wait for the men in white.

However, that is the unbelievable situation we are in with two of the most consistent players in the world languishing at the bottom of the table with no points from three games.

It looks like the perfect opportunity for The Power to kick-off his campaign but that is exactly what The Wizard will also be thinking.

At odds of 4/9, Taylor is no price whatsoever despite the Australian looking in even worse form and so odds of 5/1 that the game finishes in an unsatisfactory conclusion for both with a stalemate.

Michael van Gerwen to beat Raymond van Barneveld @ 4/9

League leader, defending champion and world championship holder Michael van Gerwen faces-off against one of his heroes and he looks certain to be celebrating a fourth straight win with victory over Raymond van Barneveld.

Barney has won almost everything of worth in the game, however, he would be the first to admit that his achievements are probably to be dwarfed by his 24-year-old countryman.

The Green Eyed Monster is predictably short to get the job done but that price is a fair reflection of the level he is operating at presently – one where his opponent struggles to get close to enough these days.

MVG has also begun to dominate their head-to-head with five wins from their last six encounters.

Dave Chisnall to beat Gary Anderson @ 11/8

Dave Chisnall has had a solid start to his debut season with a win and a draw and although he lost last week to Michael van Gerwen, he will certainly be in a large majority at the end of the season to have suffered the same fate.

He confronts a predictably unpredictable Gary Anderson at the Hydro and it is nigh on impossible to imagine how the amiable Scot will play despite the guarantee of some raucous support.

After thrashing Whitlock in Week 2 he looked like a worthy favourite to make it another against a rueful Thornton but he failed to turn up and was blasted away.

And with Whitlock suffering his third straight defeat of the event in Ireland it makes you wonder whether Anderson’s win over the bearded tungstenite was that creditable at all.

Consequently the selection is for the more upwardly-mobile Chisnall to grab another win and add a bit more evidence to the building dossier against Anderson playing in the competition next year.
